CP is being cheep

Two things, RagingBull--

What I said was, by raising other prices a little, they absorb the cost of the soda-- syrup costs pennies per serving, cups likewise per unit-- and because they charge everyone, it quite likely works out to being as profitable if not more so. What you and your wife drank is beside the point. You say they raised the admission price by a couple of bucks, about one drink per guest? Try ten drinks per guest-- most of the price you pay is profit for the park, not to cover the cost. Not all guests drink soda. Others don't drink but one or two cups. But at HW they all pay for soda as a hidden charge. Proves my point rather than yours, I think. Thanks.

And, what does Hersheypark have to do with Cedar Point? Folks keep trying to compare CP to this park or that park rather than look at the particulars of Cedar Point. Of course, a few buses can drive over the causeway. But that narrow causeway, and limited room at the far end to provide a way for the buses to bypass the toll gates, makes it problematic.

What my resorts had over Breakers Express at Disney?
-free transportation from 6:30 AM to 2:30AM to 10+ parks/attractions where you can also go visit, eat, and look around at any of their other 20+ resorts with each bus for each attraction come every 20 minutes or less(look at how much gas, shuttles, and workers, which they change several times a day, that takes), meaning there's about 100+ buses running at any given time
-2 gift shops
-an arcade
-1 full service restaurant
-around 7 counter service restaurants and food court
-3 themed pools
-lakeside views and beaches

...all for $144 a night. That's even a lot compared to the Hotel Breakers.

Yeah, but are you forgetting that Disney is a destination park and you'd spend a ton more on food, entertainment, and admission as a result of the free shuttles. (i.e. Downtown Disney, all of the Amusement Parks, Wide World of Sports).

Obviously, you guys are going to defend "your" park to the death and there's no way what any of the rest of as are trying to say with pass through.

You mean like you do about Kings Island?"

Hey, if the shoe fits.

This is in particular about those arguing even though they've not experienced both parks resorts. I know someone in particular here who I think has not stayed at a resort for either who constantly is arguing about it.

Again, I'm only using Disney because it happens to be the only park(11 times) I've been to more than PKI(dozens).

I don't defend PKI, because it's my home park or anything. Heck, I'll defend SFKK or SFWoA, even the whole corporation to the death if I know it's right on their side. I defend it if there is something I believe in is wrong. And I *never* say something I don't believe in.

Slithernoggin, I know why people keep comparing other parks to CP. Because if so and so park does it, why can't the "World's Largest Amusement Park" and "Best Amusement Park in the World"? Holiday World and Hershey could stop their extra services and still be just as satisfactory with guests. So, why don't they?

And like someone else said, the causeway shouldn't be an excuse. Maybe it should actually be included as the problem. Why not expand the width of the Causeway? You said it yourself that it has limited room.

I was comparing Disney's smallest resort to Breakers Express because if Disney can provide transportation for their smallest resort, which is still bigger than Breakers Express and can be a great distance away from certain destinations, why can't Cedar Point get a few shuttles for theirs which is just down the Causeway?

And it wasn't just *my* resort at Disney that provides all of that. All of their resorts are that way. There's even about 10 resorts Disney doesn't run they provide free transportation for. Now, do they really have to do that? Couldn't those people just drive themselves?

Last time I checked, Cedar Point wasn't exactly "cheep" in this department either.

"Jeff, that comment about staying home rather being "cheap" on a vacation is a bit caustic."
If you found that offensive, then I do apologize. I guess what I really mean is that you get what you pay for.

And thanks, Dave, for acknowledging my "status." Is it that obvious that real-life has me a bit stressed?

Why don't you take that consideration with other people or learning their situation instead of just snapping back at them with some rude comment? They may be having a bad day/time too. And how about the people earlier who found that offensive? Are you apologizing to them too or just slithernoggin? Just curious. Not trying to be mean or anything.

Even if you did mean "you get for you paid for" by it, some people may not have enough money to pay for everything they would like to have advantage of too. Has nothing to do with being cheap.

[edit] Hmmm. I just read what you had to say in Dawg Bite's rumor thread on the "Suggestions" board and I might have to take back what I said(yes, I still left it there because it still bothers me a little). I don't think it would be very "fun" for you if you constantly got messages like mine, so I do take back what I said so you will continue to have fun and that you will enjoy the site as much as I do since I'm kind of contradicting myself by 'snapping' back at you and being inconsiderate of your situation. But still, lighten up a little...please! :(

Anyway, sorry you're having some rough time right now and I hope you can get back to your happy self soon...which according to you will be when I'm going back to school. Look forward to grumpy me! But how can it be any worse than now? Bwa ha ha! ;)

"Come stay at Hotel Breakers! Double the price of Breakers Express, but you can walk to Cedar Point and we have a Fridays! For our cheapest room, you can get the Disaster Transport view!" *** This post was edited by Koaster King on 7/21/2001. ***
A couple of points...
First of all, 70 buses comes from 350 rooms * 4 people = 1400 people / 20 people/bus = 70 bus trips. Use 40 pax. buses and reduce that to 35 trips.
Second, according to trade publications, back when Holiday World was charging for drinks, their drink per-cap...that is, the average amount each person in the park spent for drinks...was $2.70. So they raised the admission price by $3 and stopped charging for drinks. Holiday World also reported last season that including the drinks in the P-O-P resulted in a significant increase in the food per-caps. That is, people not spending money on drinks spent significantly more on food. And since the drink revenue was paid for by the increase in the admission charge, the park shows a net increase in revenue. It's not a decision Holiday World made lightly, and it is clear that it had the desired effect last year because they continued it this year.

--Dave Althoff, Jr.
That's an excellent idea from Holiday World. I personally thought their admission price was a steal for two of the greatest woodie coasters on Earth and such a "homey", fun-filled, and enjoyable experience. Even without the free drinks. I say that the people "think" that's a plus, even if they don't know it's to HWs advantage. My family had about 3-4 drinks per person throughout the day. I still think I'm getting the better deal. :)
