CP- People Dropping Like Flies

I was at Cedar Point last week, in which down in Sandusky they broke a heat record at like 98 degrees. Not unnormal to me, since down here in Kentucky we get up in the 100's. But, anyway, we seen 3 of CP's small Ambulances taking people away that had passed out b/c of heat. We were even by this one girl that passed out waiting in line for Millenium Force. Thought I would fill ya in. By the way, smart idea for CP to put coke machines in ride lines! And, they were giving away free water!

Is that what you "seen?"

Got news for you chum, this is normal for a North Coast summer.

This reminds me. Back last month when I was at CP an infant died in it's stroller sitting outside of the Millennium Force entrance. I didnt realize what had happenned and I asked a ride-op doing the stamping for free-way "hows it goin"? He told me not to good and let me in on what happened. Not sure if it was heat realted or not though.

We were there last week (the 23rd, 24th, and 25th) and it was hot but I didn't see the big problem. Seemed just like summer to me. It was in the mid to high 90's both days.

The drink machines have been in the queues for as long as I can remember and you can get free water at every park I've ever been to.

I think I'm missing the point of this thread...

Then again we just moved back north from Florida, so maybe you build a tolerance.

Dorney Park visits in 2002: 13

CP has always had Vending machines inside most of it's ride lines...mainly the larger rides. MF has 4 rows of vending machines alone!

I swear, people in this country MUST REALIZE something. That would be to drink water, even when you are not thirsty, in extreme temperatures. It's recommended to drink 25-30 oz. of water PER HOUR on days above 90 degrees.

I'm going to Florida in a week, and I will be armed with an arsenal of water bottles.

To bad about the infant. I always thought that it was cruel to take a baby to a park and have him/her sit in a stoller in the hot sun all day. Find a sitter! The baby will be more happy and the parent will be able to do more riding. You would think that most people would know enough to drink lots of water.

The worst day at Cedar Point is better than the best day at work.

I was at the park Tuesday and Friday this past week, and I did see those ambulances running around, but never with people in them. It was hot, but it wasn't that hot - if you found some shade, it was actually a really nice day (not that this means I went searching for shade ... that meant less time on rides!!!)

It was just as hot at SFA last weekend when I was there, thank god for water rides.

I was in south eastern Ohio on the 23, 24th and 25th and it was hot as an oven down there.

I was there last year for 2 days. People were fainting all the time the first day and the second day they offered free water. They also do this at Michigan Stadium ;)

sounds like a normal midwest summer...one day its 60, next day its 100...

About the soda machines in the queue lines: You probably shouldn't buy those, especially on hot days. I'm sure everyone has heard this a thousand times before, but that caffeine will only dehydrate you more. You are significantly more likely to suffer from heat exhaustion or heat stroke after you drink one of those. If you want a soda, either get a diet soda or a Sprite or something without caffeine. Better yet, just drink water, and lots of it. There is nothing worse than being at your favorite park and suddenly having to be taken to the hospital. Take Precautions!

If everything had a point, there would be nothing left to sit on.

I can sometimes get dissy on a coaster if it is really really hot... gotta hate dehydration! 98 doesn't seem like fall down and die weather to me though.

jeff, dont mean to be mean, but none knows what our summer's are like.we dont even know. their insane. seriously, the desert has a smaller tempature change than our little section of hell.why do i call it that? idont know. P.S. did your signature come from a radio staion?

If your really evil in this life, do you come back as toilet paper????
ladies and gentlemen, due to an increase in line jumping, people caught cutting in line will no longer be ejected from the park. u will be ejected from the ride

I can remember being a young boy going to the park, not CP, but the local amusement park, and there being no stupid drink machines in lines. What a grand thing. Water fountains, I could understand that. It's just those dumb machines in lines, they had to come about because of some complaining consumer who thought they had a good idea. Regardless of wether people buy or not, people stop & stare at 'em, stop to complain about how much the drink is, blah blah blah. They don't really need to be there. They're as pointless as people & thier backpacks. Water fountains, water fountains, water fountains. Besides, drinking that soda on a hot day, with all that sugar, makes you feel bad. Summer, well, summer has hot days, big deal. The heat index was way out over 100 in the Richmond area two weeks ago, so what it's hot, you can't exactly change weather. You know it's hot when you go outside, get in your car, & take yourself in the amusement park. So why should the park warn you, or give you water or special service in all actuality you've invited yourself down into that situation.

Exactly. Unfortunately a trip on the body buggy and ambulance taught me this last year. It's really easy for hardcore rides people to not take time out every now and then to grab a drink; live and learn, I guess.

You're talking about the gp, people who probably are out of shape to begin with, who only walk from the couch to the refrigerator and back, all year. Then they go to CP, eat more greasey junk food, drink pop (18 teaspoons of sugar in each bottle) and wonder why they feel sick. DUH! Then they blame it on the park somehow.... I was checking in at Lighthouse Point, listening to these two women complaining on and on, that their cabin wasn't two cabins closer to the pool so they wouldn't have to walk. Then why go? How many miles is a circuit around the park? 3? Little infants should be left at home, what kind of fun can they have? They can't even comprehend where they are....they're pushed around in strollers, usually not shielded from the sun, all they can see are everyone's butts in front of them all day. 2 or 3 is a good age to start kids. At least. You are all right on about water....a child has to drink 5 ounces of water every twenty minutes when it's that hot (mid-90's & up), because their cooling system isn't as developed as an adult's, as far as sweating goes. If you think ahead of time, and plan ahead of time, you can have a great time at the park regardless. When it's that hot, it's only logical to take precautions, and plan cooling time between rides...ie.:taking in Snoopy On Ice, stopping in an air-conditoned souviner shop, a trip to the beach, walking down the Frontier Trail in the shade, stop in an ice cream parlor, a stop at one of the air-conditioned restaurants, water ride or waterpark....etc. Anyone can get a weather forecast just by calling park information.
This time of year the temp and the humidity are about the same there. It can be a killer combination, if you don't keep hydrated and remember to take it easy.
You people are FOOLS for going when it's so hot!!!!!

I go when it's hot. But I have a combo pass at CP so I spend the hottest part of the day in Soak City, and drink lots of water.

I would be in agreement with Lord Gonchar and Jeff on this, what is the point of this thread?

Ohio is like any other state in that part of the country in that it gets pretty hot and humid there and some people are going to get sick.

I was at the arts fair here in Omaha NE when it was like 95-100 degrees and very humid and the same thing was happening there. They had some carnival rides there so I think I should have posted something about people dropping like flies there to
