Two thrill-seekers were trapped for more than two hours Monday night, dangling 50 feet in the air on a bungee ride at a Northwest Dallas amusement center. And thats why many states demand 2-3 redundant safety/back-up systems to prevent this.
I watched the rescue of the second rider live on WFAA. I don't know anything about the mechanics of the ride, but at some point, would it have been quicker and safer to secure the capsule with a crane, detach the cables, and lower the capsule? That just seems a little less complicated than harnessing the riders and transferring them to the bucket lift on a fire truck.
