Two thrill-seekers were trapped for more than two hours Monday night, dangling 50 feet in the air on a bungee ride at a Northwest Dallas amusement center. They got on the ride around 7:30 p.m., but after the 60-second experience ended, the cables apparently locked up — leaving the couple dangling in mid-air.

I watched the rescue of the second rider live on WFAA. I don't know anything about the mechanics of the ride, but at some point, would it have been quicker and safer to secure the capsule with a crane, detach the cables, and lower the capsule? That just seems a little less complicated than harnessing the riders and transferring them to the bucket lift on a fire truck.
