Could the New Wave Be These Gravity Group Monsters?

Hehe. I just want to add that while I am *loving* all these new wooden coasters, parks need to MAINTAIN the wooden coasters they have. Not much worse than riding a wooden coaster you rode before (and LOVED) only to find it's just no longer the same ride...

When I heard about some friends' experience with Cheetah today, just reminded me AGAIN what a really good ride it once was... meh.

Also SFoG's Cyclone. That thing is running brutally this year.

I heard that as well. That shuffle reminds me of the wierd transition between drops 3 and 4 on Ghostrider, right before the midcourse. Many a rib has cracked because of that shuffle. LOL

I *bet* that that's where bASSistist cracked my rib...a most excellent mOOSHing that was... ;)

edit: matt., I think DWeaver was referring to those last few hold-outs that continued to call Beast "the greatest wooden coaster ever"...mighta been at some point, my first rides were...'99 I think....and Beast had basically been reduced to just *the helix*.

Those people, at least among enthusiasts, seem to be completely far and few between, so I guess I'm still kinda lost how the Voyage/Beast comparison is being made, but whatever.

I mean theres a small contigent out there that really likes SOB and Mean Streak, have their coffins been nailed shut, too? lol

I rode the BEAST on 6/6/6. It used to be one hell of a ride, but now it's bedeviled by all the shuffling and shimmying. Stick a (pitch)fork in it, the poor soul's done.

Actually, the new wave could well be the Kentucky Rumblers as those parks who didn't put in CCI's in the 90's add GCI's to their lineups.

Seriously, I love the Beast, but haven't ridden it for a couple of years. To me, The Voyage is like a much better version of The Beast. And when I compare them, all I am drawing on is the fact that they are both long, wooden coasters in a woodsy, hilly setting. I hope the Beast gets the TLC it apparently needs and continues to operate for years to come.

You would think that Oaks Park in Portland,Oregon would have a wood coaster but all they have is a crappy Pinfari mini looper. This is suprising considering that the park has been in business for over a 100 years and was home to the Zip,a Harry Traver coaster that was a predecessor to the Crystal Beach Cyclone.

Any wood coaster would be a major upgrade for this park. *** Edited 6/16/2006 6:57:06 AM UTC by Ronald S. Anderson***

Lets' bring back Portland,Oregons' Jantzen Beach Big Dipper(1928-1970)Oregon needs some good wood!
Another park that I previously mentioned could use some wood is DelGrossos. The one problem at the park regarding this is finding a place to build it. This might require some land acquisitions or moving existing buildings or attractions.

DelGrossos is a very beautiful, well-run park but there just seems to be something missing as long as there is no wooden coaster in the park. The spinning mouse is a great ride (just like the one at Kennywood only outdoors) but there is just something about wood that gives a traditional park a proper image..
