Cost of Mr. Freeze?

Does anybody know how much this coaster costs?  And if you've ridden it, is it worth the money?

are you planning on buying one?

If I remember correctly it was $10-12 million.  With the OTSRs, it's not worth it, in my opinion.  Without....we'll see....

Well I guess a big dream of mine is to open just a mini-amusement park with maybe a pretty good wood coaster and possibly a good steel.  I'm not really expecting it to happen, but I can dream can't I?

IMO,

If it cost only a buck then the park paid too much for it.  I LOATHE that coaster and would volunteer to push the ignition switch to blow it sky high if the park so decided.

Now, the redeeming thing is the lap bar.  If this holds true for both versions, then the ride will probably leave the bottom of my list.  It will still be low because of the poor station design and layout (sans dual launch tansfer table, that is cool) but can only go up.

But until I ride with lap bars (I will only ride again with lap bars), MR. Freeze easily ranks as the worst coaster I have ever ridden.

If I had $10-12 million I'd buy a nice airtime machine.  Steel Force was $10. S:ROS was $12  I could ride those all day.  Freeze: maybe once or twice.

I guess I'm not the only one that feels that way Shaggy! :)  Media day on it was pure hell.  I've never had less fun riding a coaster in my life.  Even with the free food and good treatment!

I, for one, thought the ride was great...are at least the one at SFOT. Yes, it was rough and had some headbanging, but I wouldn't say it's the worst coaster.

I've also heard that the SFOMA verison is rougher, but I've never ridden it to know.

WOW Shags... Mr. Freeze is currently the only shuttle to make it inot my top 10 steel list. I thought it was fantastic. Not even a bit rough. (Chiller -bat neither). Personally, lapbars wont change my opinion much because I didnt bang my head at all (rode in the very front and very back...guess which one I liked more ;))

But I have no idea how much it cost...

Shaggy, I couldn't disagree more. I thought Freeze was the BEST launched coaster I have ever been on, and one of my favorite steel coasters, period. It is also one of the most intense ride I have ever experienced. Poor station design, what's wrong with the station? (BTW, I am not trying to start an arguement, just voicing my opinion.)

It has mild headbanging, but it is much smoother than an average Arrow looper. Try holding onto the horsecollar and push your head back, it helps a lot! The Spaghetti bowl coasters with horsecollars (Poltergeist) are far worse than Freeze, FAR WORSE!!

I hope more parks add a coaster like Freeze to their coaster lineup, whatever the cost!

When I rode Joker's Jinx like 20 times in one day, can't quite remember the exact number, I had only mild head banging when riding.  Pending that I rode alot more towards the front then the back may have something to do with it but I still found mild to no head banging.  It all depends if you know how to ride the coaster.

Batman: The Chiller was the same way.  I only had mild head banging to none at all.  The Robin side was a different story though.  Once was enough for me.  I can't wait for Freeze.  I'm hitting both on one trip along with Poltergeist.

What, I rode Batman the chiller with OTSRs and it wasnt that horrible.  It was an average coaster.  I think with the laps, it will rank in my top 15.  By the way my worst coaster ever was shockwave at PKD.

I respect your opinion about MR freeze and am glad you find it an enjoyable coaster. However, I do not like it in the least.

I have ridden Chiller as well as the FOF's (pre lap bar and post lap bar) as well as Joker's Jinx. Mr Freeze remains the only coaster I have gotten off and refused to ride again.

I love the launch, and general idea, but think it is executed poorly. By the time the train reaches the spike I am already dreading the trip through it backwards.

My issue with the station involves the overall poor theming, and general feeling of being horribly dirty. I have only ridden the STL version. To Batman fans (The legend/hero, not just the ride) such as myself the themeing is an embarassment.  But the worst aspect is the exit which is nothing but a fire trap. They insist that exiting riders leave the station through one of two standard size doors. Both doors lead to the same narrow hallway leading to an even more narrow exit ramp. Well, all would be fine except the hallway and ramp are consistantly clogged with handicapped patrons as well as those waiting for others in line. This leads to riders not being able to exit proptly and trains are not be dispatched on time. It is an embarassingly poor station design.

As far as riding defensively with less headbanging... well I am 100% sure I will not attempt that if it means I have to relent re-ride with horsecollars.  Like I said, if they are removed/replaced then I will definitely ride again.  If not?  Then it gets chalked up to a "been there, done that coaster."

Actually, if I had to pick the best lauched coasters I have ridden... FOF's would rank as #1 but a close second is..... Greezed Lightning at SFAW.  Shock!  Horror!  LOL

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Shaggy,

No problem, I respect your opinion to not like the ride for your listed reasons. I have only been on the one at SFOT, and I think the actual queues and stations have some differences. Anyone been on both to compare stations?

Anyway, OL:FoF (PKI) was the one coaster I would never ride again, which I rode in '98 with the horsecollars. I would GLADLY try it again with the lapbars now.

I rode the SFStL version (in 2000) and the PKD OL:FoF with the horsecollars (in 1998). Only OL:FOF gave me a headache. But in either case, I rode both of them twice on the first day.

Maybe I'm just thickheaded (cue rimshot!)

Did anyone else do Media Day or Mr. Freeze and FOF?  FOF was 100s of times worse on that day then after it's "rehab" shortly after it opened. (I saw one guy get knocked out for a few seconds, and another with a little bleeding in his mouth from the pounding.)  Anyone also remember the unpadded harnesses?  OUCH!  (A pic of them is in one of the coaster books out there)

I think mr. freeze was a great ride. I know it is one of the most popular rides in the teenage/early-twenties age group. It cost around 10 million I believe.(I could be wrong)
Shaggy, I have ridden the Mr. Freeze at SFOT hundreds of times. I consider it one of my alltime favs in the steel catagory. The lapbars should make it even better.

From what I've heard, the stations on the SFoT and SFSL versions differ quite a bit. I can tell you that the themeing on the SFOT version is excellent and generally draws raves from visitors. If fits nicely in the Gotham section next to Batman.

If your not into intense rides then you won't like Freeze. I however am into intense rides and love the moment when I'm at the top of the vertical spike waiting to drop backwards through the course.

I can assure you that the station conditions you didn't like about the SFSTL version are not a problem on the SFOT version.

I also rode Poltergiest at SFFT and can confirm Soggys statment that the head banging is much worse on the Spaghetti bowls than the Mr. Freeze rides.

I can't wait to try Freeze with lapbars. That should take care of any head banging problems.

TITAN RULES!

While I haven't been to SFStL, I'll add another voice to the kudos for Mr. Freeze @ SFoT. I liked it quite a lot and found the theming well done. I didn't experience any headbanging, but after my 3 re-ride nightcap, I did have a quarter-sized patch of skin rubbed off of my right shoulder. Bring on those lapbars!!!

Later,
EV

Are the Mr. Freeze's going to have lap bars in 2002? I sure hope so...
