Conneaut Lake will be operated by court-appointed trustee

A panel of judges has designated a trustee to operate Conneaut Lake Park, home of the historic Blue Streak, in lieu of one of the original owners. The financially-troubled park owes more than $500,000 in various debts. The park's owner is suing for control.

If they can continue to make an annual profit of $300,000 they should be able to easily service a $500,000 debt assuming that the profit isn't all needed for profit maintaining capital spending.

I hope they succeed, because the Blue Streak was really cool, the hotel looked nice, and the location at the lake was cool, plus Ultimate Trip was a great scrambler,

but, I was miffed that the train didn't work when I went, the wall of gum on the dark ride was unsettling (like the bathrooms!)

Clearly this man doesn't have the resources or good creditablility to operate this place. Things are pearking up for the park; I don't see any reason to mess with it now.

In Gary's defense, he did reopen the park, and put people back to work. That is the bottom line. Conneaut has since had trouble with other 'operators' who have not been current on back taxes, utilities, and other mediocre issues. The current management team has experience, as they were appointed by the courts. They have been working for the park through all of the changes since 1993.

They are on top of things by wanted bills paid by 'previous operators', and they are aware of the fact that they could end up like Whalom Park and other small parks that have local financial issues. That park has such great potential that they just need a few breaks here and there, and then everything is happy again.

You are right, sorry if I was a little harsh on my last post. But now things are starting to look up for Conneaut (they even got a Chance toboggan this year) and I say why mess with something that is working for the place? Does Gary actually own any portion of Conneaut still?

Yikes. I hope this pans out. Thanks for the info AJ. I fell in love with this place last year, and can't wait to visit again. I'm more than happy to offer my painting services too! Woo hoo, 3 weeks til the big 'ol paint-til-ya-drop! :) As for the Toboggan.....does anyone know where it is coming from? As long as it's not Lakemont's or Little A-Merrick-A's I can count it!

The toboggan is from a travelling show. The owner had a whole buncha rides, but wants to scale down his carnival a bit. I heard that Conneaut was planning on purchasing 3 rides, actually. The toboggan was one that was mentioned, so I would put credit in to this, as it's not just a rumor. We'll see if the other 2 pan out with their current finances.

bigkirby... I may be mistaken (as I usually am) but I think that it was sold in the auction...

EDIT: I thought I was wrong! It was sold in 1982. No wonder I don't remember riding it.

The kiddie mgr was sold in 1993 to a motorcycle dealer. The Toboggan is comign from Texas. It is little fan fare for the industry, but it is their first coaster since the installed the wooden mouse in the 60's. *** This post was edited by Agent Johnson on 3/29/2002. ***
Hye Agent J, was their kiddie coaster first at Conneaut, or is it a transplant?
