LG, that was summer of 1991. If that was it, glad to bring back memories, which is what that park is about.

Yup...1991.

I guess the recent events answer my question regarding the lack of blog entries the last two weeks.
i might drive down there this coming weekend to see what i can see.

They have also posted some info on their main web page. If you have a prom scheduled there, you are in good shape, if you were going to spring cleanup #2, stay home.

While I'm glad I got there, this really STINKS! In the era of B&Ms and Intamins and megaparks, classics like CLP are having a harder and harder time surviving...go visit some SMALLER parks this season!

Grandma, I miss you....

Well, with another day and the Meadville Tribune, the park may have a chance.

They love a cliffhanger.

I contributed that story to news this morning.
The blog has a new update. It's very short but it's better than nothing.

It's nice to see all the in-park improvements this year.

So, let me get this straight, The Ultimate Trip (Scrambler) is closed or taken out?

I know the roof collasped last winter, but I never heard what happened since then.

Wow and here I thought it was mechanical. Maybe they need to get a building inspector in and inspect the rest of the buildings since this is the second collapse I have heard about there.

From my conversation with park maintenance last summer, the Ultimate Trip (Scrambler)was removed from the building last year at the "suggestion" of the PA Bureau of Ride Safety, due to the accident in 2004 in New York(?)where a guest was killed on an indoor Scrambler. When they disassembled it, they found the center bearing to be bad. The turnaround time for this bearing (even from Eli Bridge) is 26 weeks. That pretty much was the whole season last year. I'm guessing that they opted not to erect it this year to save money and get some of the other rides running.

By the way, someone mentioned that the blog shows the repairs to the Bug. I'd just like to say that Hersheypark supplied the babbit needed to complete the job. Even in this competitive age, parks still work together and help each other out. *** Edited 5/14/2006 2:28:01 PM UTC by Comet Rider***

Hersheypark and Conneaut are hardly competitors ;)
I guess raising their ticket prices arent an option? They are pretty cheap and I think a few bucks wouldnt hurt to increase profits (like the over 46" could be $14.95 weds-fri and $19.95 sat-sun) It would still be very reasonable. Im just taking a stab in the dark so maybe this wouldn't be a good idea at all.
The ultamate trip was removed because the roof collapsed over winter 04/05

Sheesh

'Moosh, today everybody is competitor in this business.....I actually meant that in a broader sense, though. Hershey has worked with many other parks (and vice-versa) to get a ride up and running.

Charles, ask maintenance why the scrambler was removed the next time you visit. I don't argue that the building is not in good shape, but at the very least they are using the excuse that PA BRS forced the issue. I believe that topic was already covered here, with regards to "dark" flat rides....

Don told us last year that the Scrambler was done for. It suffered main bearing damage and since it was an original model from 1950, it wasn't worthy of repair costs. Kinda sad really.

You are correct, Thrillerman. I was searching for a bearing after talking to Don in August, but wasn't able to find one available(even used). Eli has issued so many mandatory updates to the older units that many aren't worth repairing. The really bad areas always show up when you disassemble or move them. Actually, the new ones aren't all that expensive, considering that they'll probably last another 50 years. Of course, money is a luxury for CLP. Maybe in years to come they'll have one again....

With them scrapping their Scrambler due to it's age and the bearing being too expesive, do you think a newer replacement for the Scrambler would be on a higher priority if the park begins to do well?

(I ask this because they felt that the Bug and Tempest were pretty high priorities this year, and perhaps they would like another virtually maintanance-free ride in their line-up again)
