Conneaut Lake Park starts season with high attendance

George Deshner, general manager of Conneaut Lake Park, hopes the rest of the summer is as great as the first two days of the 2006 season for the 114-year-old amusement park. He estimated between 3,000 and 4,000 in attendance on Saturday and between 10,000 and 15,000 on Sunday.

Wow, the nice weekend and all the negative press about the park maybe closing must have brought out people from the woodwork.
It is a great thing when any traditional amusement park whose future is in doubt turns the corner. That is what happened with parks such as Camden Park and Beech Bend. I wish the same for CLP.
They also have a new blog update with a little more info:

Good for them. This place needs a nice shot in the arm. Because alot of people came it would be nice to see these numbers continue, so one day we can talk about them not having to borrow money, and maybe even turn some profit. Things look up with them adding back rides and things lets just hope people come back. Im sure as heck gonna try because it was a good time last year. Its also good to use the centerpiece of the park for event, by that i mean the lake and the hotel which is a really nice place. Awesome news.
This appears to be a situation a lot like Arnold's park in Iowa. Here we have another small traditional park that the community hasn't given up on in spite of mounting debts and other problems. Just imagine what could have happened with Whalom Park and other parks where similar efforts fell short.

I don't think we'll see "that" many weekends with crowds like Sundays this summer, but as long as things stay steady, and people decide to make their trips a 2-day with on-site stays, I seriously think things will be very bright for the park's future.

Sounds like we have a good guy running things right now... let's hope I'm right!

Let's hope that many of the people who were there this past weekend come back again-- and coax a lot of other people to come.
I'm planning at least two trips there this summer, both with camping.Between the CLP area and Meadville, there's quite a bit to do in a weekend. We usually hit the Conneaut Cellars winery, the Drake Oil museum, Linesville Spillway and a few other places. There's a few antique stores around there as well.
