Conneaut Lake Park, 6/9/02

Since I couldn’t go to PKI for CBCon due to lack of funds, I decided to not waste a Sunday sitting at home and went to Conneaut for a few hours. First thing I noticed from Opening Day here was that they had rope connecting the posts in the ground! I haven’t seen anything like that in a long time! I decided that since I was here I’d just buy my season pass. The girl at the ticket booth was incredibly nice. Everything was running, except for Toboggan, which had a sign stating that it was closed for repairs. I went back to the Personnel office to get my mug taken for my pass... weird how they do this. You have to wear your season pass on you like a name badge. Wouldn’t it be easier to just show your pass at a booth and get a wristband? I’d be the first person to lose something like that. The guy taking my pic noticed my CP season pass and I explained to him how it worked... and why there was a bar code on it

I had my camera with me and decided to take some shots. Walked back to Blue Streak and *surprise* it was down. By now I had not gone to PKI like I had hoped, couldn’t ride Toboggan, and Blue Streak was down for who knows how long! I had actually thought about just leaving and going back home, but I stuck it out (glad I did). I had some weird looks from people as I was walking all through the park to get some nice shots. Took a few of Carousel (which really looks pretty since it’s been painted) and went into the Log Cabin Gift Shop to buy a t-shirt.

By now, my batteries were dying, and I needed to ride something. I heard my Blue Streak making its way around the course! So, like a natural, I loaded up all my stuff and... took it with me The ride op offered to watch my stuff for me, but I declined... not because I didn’t trust the op, because I don’t trust anyone else. So I sit in my favorite seat (next to last) and get some amazing stand up air on the first three hills! I hadn’t noticed before, but there is a trim brake as you are going into the turn around. Ugh! Sitting in the back also avoided me getting nearly tossed from the train during the whiplash turn. I ran around a little more, looked at the lake, then went to get a cup of water because I didn’t really want to pay for a bottle. I’m used to just asking for a cup of water at CP, and what I got a CLP was a nice surprise. He grabbed the biggest cup they had, filled it with ice, then filled it with water. How nice! Drank that back to the front of the park, then walked back again because I wanted nachos. Really good, and for $3 they were even better! Finished those and decided that my batteries had rested enough, so I rode the train (I keep forgetting the name of it... I got a great pic of Blue Streak in the turnaround, which is currently my wallpaper Tried to get a shot of the entire back half, but that was when my batteries exhausted themselves. I then decided to just call it a day as I was still tired from CM on Friday. All in all, it was a nice day. If you notice the lack of me riding anything, it’s due to the fact that I am NOT a flat ride person in the least (some people know what I mean when it comes to motion sickness).

Nice TR. I can't wait to return and see everything running full force. Great pics too! I love the Streak's new paint, even if I still have some on my hands after 2 months! LOL. Hope they can finish the rest soon.

Nice report Jess. Nice to meet you by the way ;). Real possible I may make it during my PA coaster trip. I always wanted to ride the classic Blue Streak.

I noticed that trim too. Since the rest of the ride in manual, is it possible that the trims are manual too? Just a thought......

A question to ponder, is the Blue Streak more rough, or violent? Hmmm......

:)

Off with the trims!
