Conneaut Lake holding "Blue Streak Challenge" to raise money

Posted | Contributed by Coastercraver

Friends of Conneaut Lake Park will hold a roller coaster marathon, "The Blue Streak Challenge," at Conneaut Lake Park on July 30, 2001 to raise funds for the maintenance and repair of the Blue Streak roller coaster. The goal of this marathon is to raise funds to help Conneaut Lake Park ensure this historic ride's future so it can continue thrilling kids of all ages for generations to come.

Twenty-four riders and twelve alternates will be chosen based on committed pledges to ride continuously for ten to twelve hours, with short breaks scattered about the day for stretching and eating.

So Conneaut can't self support maintenance costs for itsmost popular ride? btw, has anyone else notices that the Blue Streak isn't blue? Ouch, hard riding, going that many times. Looks like fun though!

Formerly KirbyLovesCoasters but the name got too long. http://www.woodencoaster.com
Too bad for those unfortunate people, who will be stuck riding a coaster for 10-12 hours!

Wish I was unfortunate enough to be picked for that awful task...
GEEZ! Too bad I'll be in Florida by then, or I would have given this thing all I got! What a treat it would be, not only to ride for an entire day, but also to know that you are saving an ACE classic.

An unnerving stillness in the woods of southern Indiana beckons for you on May 11th.....
If I didn't already have plans I would definitely do this. I love that coaster. Too bad it doesn't get the recognition it deserves...

I don't know about you guys, but I would love to ride a coaster for 10 hours, I think it would be fun, not to mention an experience that you would never forget.
10 hours on practically any coaster sounds good to me, especially a coaster that is supposed to be as good as the Blue Streak!
I rode the blue streak when I was a kid. I don't remember much except that I almost flew out of my seat. Hope to ride it again!

Almost flew out of your seat? Maybe that's why there's 12 alternates!!!

I refuse to add a signature. Damn, too late.
Nothing better than to preserve the maintenance of a coaster than to run it for a marathon. :)

Well, I rode this ride non stop when I worked there about 10 years ago. It is one incredible ride. Their maintenence manager was a former mechanic at Idora, and he knows how to keep a wooden coaster pure and out of control.

I could ramble off over 100 never heard before stories, but the subject here is that it is a great coaster in a timeless park. This is a great chance for Conneaut Lake to get some positive PR, and a chance for some fanse to ride at will for hours on end. Just please to continue to support the park when the session is over. At 109 years young, there is plenty of Conneaut Lake to enjoy in the future.
