Conneaut Lake Park went in debt another $225,000 this year, taking the total amount of money it now owes from $1.9 million at the beginning of the year to $2.160 million. A financial report filed Tuesday in the Crawford County Prothonotary’s Office shows the park’s loss from Jan. 1 to Oct. 15, which includes unpaid real estate taxes of $37,472.48.

You know what I do not like people like you guys ( Jumping to conclusions and making rumors to hurt this place) Yes I do see 2008 to be a difficult year but mayby they could get somthing new because they got a bunch off old rides sitting in storage.

Making rumors to hurt this place? What are you talking about? A bunch of coaster nerds aren't going to tank the park. They seem to be doing that quite well on their own.
What exactly discussed here was a rumor? The steadily increasing debt of CLP is a fact. The commentators here were simply extrapolating this to the probable conclusion of a default and closure, and speculating what may become of the assets of the park if that scenario did come to pass.

But carrying a debt load of $2M, isn't it safe to *guess* that about half of that 225K in red ink is simply interest on the outstanding debt?

Smart ass. ;)

Ok so they're one million in debt in a decade.

Happy? :)

Kinda...;)

I guess what I was trying to say is they really only *lost* about 100K by operating this year (interest accrues whether the gates are opened or not)...NOW I'm happy... :~P

What I'd like to know is: How did Elizabeths restaurant and Spirits lounge lose $198,000? They were open about 16 weeks (some were 5 day weeks, others were 6 day weeks). How can you not notice that you're losing over $12,000 a week in food and booze? I think halfway thru the season i would've changed something with the restaurant.

Kidcoaster: What rumors? Most of the people here have been damn supportive of CLP and were glad to hear about the Erieview ride going there next season.

Sorry I did not mean it like that I just don't like hear guesses on where the rides will go if the park closes. Because I am keeping my hopes up for them.

The rides are not going anywhere. Period.

You are probably right, it will be easier for the auctioneer to sell the rides in place, and have the buyers remove at their own cost...

What they really need to do stay open adveritse there are people as close as meadville who think the park closed a couple years ago.

^LOL, I ran into a few of them last summer. A couple of people at the winery were talking about vacationing in Cleveland. We told we were from cleveland. After a awhile, they asked where we were staying, we said, Camperland. They thought it was odd that the park could be closed but the camp ground is still open. They were from Meadville.

They seemed surprised the place was open and they lived about 5 miles from it.
