Coney Island Parachute Jump getting LED treatment

Zamperla USA – which runs Luna Park and other attractions – was selected to install 8,000 colored LED lights across the Parachute Jump that will be programmable for shows and special events with music.

Am I the only one who wonders if it is feasible (or even possible) to restore the Parachute Jump to working condition? Granted I am pretty sure any parts needed to do that would now likely have to be custom made.

That was investigated a few years back (maybe 5 or 6 now), and determined to be unfeasible. Might have been Intamin? Thinking the steel may no longer be able to support the weight and motion of riders.

A real bummer, because if you've ever seen video of the ride in operation, it was NOTHING like the parachutes we're used to seeing in parks - well, now just the one in NJ.

I don't follow. Parachute towers have been around for, what, 80 or 90 years now? It's a tried-and-true technology. Intamin couldn't possibly screw it up...
