Coney Island Cyclone No More?

CNN is reporting that this will be Astroland's final season?! The story is asking folks what they will miss about the park, yet I still can't believe there are plans to demolish this historic landmark. Any truth to this?
The Cyclone is protected and will remain, regardless of what happens to Astroland.
Astroland does not own the Cyclone, the city of New York does. The Alberts (owner of Astroland) have 8 years left on their operating lease and have said that they will continue to operate it.

In regards to this being Astroland's last season, while it's possible...there's a good chance that they will be around a couple more years.

This is a bonus season for Astro land and Deno's wonderwheel park, Anything after this is also a bonus.

The T's aren't crossed and the I's not dotted but the future of this park and Rye are very much uncertain.

Cyclone was plegged to be part of any transition as were wonderwheel and the Parachute tower.

Other than that, It will be much, much different.

Chuck, making his first and maybe only trip to Coney as it is today in about 4 weeks.

Chuck, I will probably see you there on my first and only trip!

Certain victory.

Chuck...Deno's Wonderwheel park is safe for at least the next 5 years. The Wonder Wheel, The Cyclone, the Parachute Drop, and Childs Restaurant building are all landmarked. Coney's future won't be changing as quickly as many people think...there are still a lot of issues to be worked out.

In regards to your statement about Rye???? Rye is in no danger whatsoever. Not sure what you are talking about.

Playland seems to be safe. There are always those rumors about the park getting phased out because it's government-owned but I don't think the people of Westchester County will ever let that happen. I don't see it going anywhere anytime soon.

The only thing about Playland Amusement Park in Rye is a couple of the dark rides are coming out. I think they may have been leased to the city and they owner is pulling them out. Glad I got there last year to check them out. It's a pretty cool park.

Jason,

The dark rides (Witches Flight and Zombie Castle) are safe and not going anywhere. The county has made a deal with the rides' owner and they will be there for the forseeable future. They did remove the Scrambler (of death), the Power Surge and the swings. They are introducing a Yo-Yo and Music Express this year.

I live in NY and have never been to Coney its a shame I am going to head over there to get on the Cyclone
