Coney Island businesses lose leases

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Early on Monday, the owners of Shoot the Freak, Ruby’s bar, Coney Island Souvenirs, Gyro Corner, Beer Garden and four other boardwalk operators were informed that their leases would not be renewed. And the operator of the Cyclone roller coaster is also leaving Coney Island.

Sucks, but if this means change for the better, then.......

^^ Perhaps change for the better - for some. Maybe better for the mainstream - but look what messes the mainstream gets into.

The dollar usually wins out unfortunately (for now anyway).

I think the first line of the article sums up how I feel the best. "Sometimes it seems as if some of Coney Island must die so that the historic amusement district can be saved — even if it means the death of Shoot the Freak."

As long as Nathan's is safe, I can live with the change.

Yeah, I'd rather the dollar win out here than to lose Coney all together. It's not exactly been drawing in tons of people until they brought the mainstream operator in. I was there last year, and though I liked the seediness of Coney, it was dying a slow death.

Hate to see these business go, but in the end, I think Coney will be better off for it.

Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.
