Coney Island Advice

I'm heading up to Astroland to ride the Cyclone on Thursday. Anything I need to know? Best spot to sit, front or back? Does it get crowded there?

Thanks,
DMC

I thought the first drop on the Cyclone in the very back seat was the most air I've ever gotten. It was pretty ridiculous. There was a post about this very topic a few weeks ago but it may have moved into "page 2 land"

Hobbes: "What's the point of attaching a number to everything you do?"
Calvin: "If your numbers go up, it means you're having more fun."

I got Zilch searching. Thanks for the advice Andy! Anything else up there to do? RCDB doesn't show many other coasters around.

Thanks,
DMC

The search function is down. You probably have to go sorting by hand. :-/

There is a way to search this site using Google, but for the life of me it I can't remember the context of how to do that.

Anyone else remember?

Okay, now I remember. Go to google and type in your search terms followed by site:www.coasterbuzz.com

Don't park in the park's parking lot (which was $20 when I was there last year). There's other places to park within a short walk that's much cheaper. Worked out well for me.
Here's the link to the thread from a couple of weeks ago. I happened to bookmark it, as I'm headed there myself later in the month.

I was actually just there this afternoon! It's not crowded at all on weekdays, and the best deal is to buy the pay on price option for Astroland and that way you can get four rides on the Cyclone and unlimited on all their flat rides for only $22. Have fun, it's a great coaster. :)

no matter where you sit, a wild ride....but the back is where it's at IMO....

Besides the cyclone, not much else there in the way of good rides, usual carnival flats (although I believe they have a new top spin). Although the wonder wheel can be interesting if you opt for the sliding cars,in a nostalgia/unusual ride way.

The NY aquarium is right near the cyclone as well. You also have the freakshow, havent done it in years, but it's a goof if you like that cheesy-type stuff. And while not a ride at all, the ORIGINAL Nathans is a must whenever visiting Coney Island. Not much of a hot dog fan, and yet I still have quite a few hot dogs from there every summer. Enjoy!

You might want to call ahead of time to find out if the park will be open to the public. I was there a few weeks ago and was met with a closed park thanks to a special event for the local kiddies.

Be sure and ride the bumper cars at Astroland. I thought the El Dorado cars were nothing special, but the outdoor set at Astroland were nuts. Also check out the odd trnasfer table for the Big Apple kiddie coaster. Rid4e the Zipper and Top Spin. If you really like to spin, ride the Breakedance.
