Colossus gone from SFNE

After a inspection of the ride it was found to be unsafe and it was dismantled and removed. I drove by the park yesterday and it is gone from the skyline. I hope they replace it. What happened to the one at SFAW maybe they can get that one. I remember when Riverside Park put it in, in the 70s.

Rip Colossus.

Uhhh... Astroworld's Ferris Wheel was removed in 1981 dude.
Once SF bought Riverside, they rarely ran the thing (Colossus). I guess SFNE just didn't want a ferris wheel.
Sorry to double post...are they replacing the ferris wheel with the fly swatter from Astroworld? I mean location wise.

Normally, I'd call bogus on this..

But their normal link for Colossus is gone (well, it's there... but it won't display vs. all the other rides available), and it's not on their ride-listing when you check "all rides" on their official website.

So there may be a little merit to this afterall, but I don't know... why would they remove what would basically be a staple at an amusement park... a giant wheel?

^^

No, the sky swatter is going near Cyclone, the opposite side of the park from Colossus.

There's a host of supposed issues I've heard about the ride - none that I could really verify true or untrue. But the removal doesn't surprise me. Its just been sitting there with no benefit to the park, and it's in a pretty prime piece of real estate which could be used for future expansion, easily.

Also, for other parks a loss of a ride like this could be pretty major, but SFNE is loaded with other non-coaster type rides, a distinction it sometimes doesn't get enough credit for, IMO. It's a shame to lose a family oriented ride like this though, consider the insane amount of looping flat rides SFNE has.
