Colossus

Does SFMM ever race Colossus. Did it even race in its "glory days"
The first year that it ran they did indeed race Colossus. However it was dedcided after about the first year to operate it as two independent coasters. I had heard that they management at that time felt the ridership numbers could be improved by running it that way. Eventually it also became a maintainance concern being able to work on one side while they ran the other.
Once in a while they'll run two trains on each side. And every blue moon they'll actually race, but it's mostly by accident. Rumors for 2001 say that Colossus is getting new trains and one side will run backwards permanently.

Is it one of those coasters that can become boring when it doesn't race? Or is it still half decent.
No, it's just boring right now because its so rough and slow. Back in it's good years it ran fast and didn't matter whether both sides were running. This ride needs some serious help and new trains just aint gonna do it.

LONG LIVE ARROW DYNAMICS!!
When Colossus first opened, it was a very good ride. However, an accident on the ride led to a reprofiling that slowed the ride down greatly... I've never ridden Colossus, but that's what I've heard happened to it.

Riding Colossus last Tuesday I would have to say it was the slowest woodie I have ever done.At one point mid-ride we were moving about 5 miles an hour for quite some time. My riding companion is afraid of coasters, but Colossus was moving so slowly she could have done her nails while riding. I am sad that I missed this coaster in it's prime. (Loved GOLIATH though... and all the Psyclone rants are sadly too true! Ouch.)

What accedent happend?? I think Closus was a good woodie. I relize now that it was slow and everytime you are about to drop you hit brakes. The drops are awesome though! I rode it with a half empty train the morning[ best time to ride] It was going to be hard to race and it didn't look like they would at all.

Colossus does not stink, nor does it rock. It is a good middle-of-the-road woodie. It is slow, but only on the turnarounds. The drops are quite good, and the double-up after the second drop is downright cool. I have not noticed breaks before the drops, except the mid-course block.

I would love to see this thing get some extra long PTC trians and have them race all the time, but it would still be an average woodie at best.

Oh, and what woodie thread would be complete without a Mean Streak comment? So here it goes. At least Colossus is not as bad as The Mean Streak. There, I said it. Now back to your regularly scheduled thread.

Gotta ride 'em all!
The accident occured when a woman of excessive girth shoehorned herself into the seat. At the bottom of the first hill(I believe)the lap bar failed and she shot out the car and through the structure. She died from the injuries susutained during the fall.
PTC trains????? EWWWW, am i the only one who thinks these trains are the MOST uncomfortable woodie trains?
Have you ridden the Morgan trains at either Santa Cruz or Belmont? IMO they are the most uncomfortable rolling stock in use now. Of course I rode the Giant Dipper at Belmont when it was running the original Prior and Church trains. No comparison.
