Colony Inn for KBF

Wow...as an LA native of almost 40 years all I can say is, "Good Luck, Robin...your going to need it"
^ My thoughts exactly. :)

I'm sure its possible, but I know that with public transportation in Southern California, it will be a lot of work!

Good luck!

If you haven't found a hotel yet, this one is 50 dollars per night and about a 10-15 minute walk to the park (though it is on the same street). *** Edited 2/8/2005 3:25:26 PM UTC by CoasterFanMatt***

I'm in the same situation, however I'll be using MTA to stay in Hollywood for my first Sat. and Sun there (I'm arriving Sat. morning). Being that SFMM is only open on weekends then, I will have to go on Sunday. The problem here is that the Metrolink trains (well at least the Antelope line) doesn't run on Sundays. My hotel in hollywood is still like 30 mile from SFMM so it would still be too expensive for my friend and I to take a cab. Tuesday we are moving down to a hotel 2 blocks from Knotts. Check out www.octa.net which has a trip planner for getting around OC with busses, and http://latranstar.tann.com/ will help you plan your trip around the LA area as well (it combines multiple transportation systems, so I can be very helpful -- but it doesn't help the fact that I can't get from Hollywood/LA to Santa Clarita (because they have a bus system) on a Sunday). Anyone have any ideas?

LA is a driving city. Its possible to move around the city using our bus, subway, and light rail system...but other than Universal Studios NONE of those are convenient to the theme parks.

If you don't drive my advice is to either learn to drive or visit another city. If you're too young to rent a car I suggest waiting until you're old enough to do so. The only alternative is to know someone in LA who is willing to be your chauffer. Harsh advice, yes...and I realize it won't help Robin or FlyInBack...but such is life in LA.

FlyInBack - you're staying in Hollywood? Wow...you're one brave person!

Man, I'll bet you could find a hotel worse than Colony Inn in Hollywood. ;)

Man, those were the most classic motel reviews I've ever read. Had to pass that one around the office for a laugh.

Thanks for the additional web links, FlyInBack - they look pretty useful!

I know what you mean about LA being a driving city, Mamoosh! 2 years ago I made a trip out to SFMM (mainly for X) and then on to San Francisco for the rest of my stay in California. I flew out to LAX airport from here in London intending on using the metro-rail system to get me from the aviation station to LA Union station. What I didn't count on was arriving in the middle of an MTA strike! Someone very kindly pointed me in the direction of a bus that ran from the airport to Santa Monica where I changed onto some sort of express downtown bus which eventually ended up at Union Station. It was a lot of hard work! I eventually did make it up to Santa Clarita on the metrolink train, where I stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn for a few days (mainly because research at the time had revealed that it was the only hotel for SFMM which wouldn't require me to have to cross the freeway to get up to the park - even then, I don't think you're strictly speaking supposed to walk up SFMM's driveway!). I was then mad enough to continue my journey up to San Francisco using Amtrak's combination of a bus from Newhall metrolink station, a very slow train journey north through some cotton plantations, and then another bus journey into San Francisco - it took an entire day! I have to say in all honesty, though, it was worth it! ;-)

Although this time I'm doing the journey in reverse, at least I'm coming down from San Francisco (after visiting a friend out there) by plane to cut out some of the chaos from last time. I'll then retrace my steps (hopefully using metrorail this time) from LAX up to SFMM and after a couple of days head down to Knott's hopefully using the aforementioned route. Then there's the small matter of getting back to LAX from Knott's to get me back to London, but hopefully that will all work out! Your sentiments of good luck are appreciated and I know that I will certainly need it!

Thanks and all the best,

Robin

(p.s. I did Cedar Point last year using ground transportation but it was a little bit easier (although not an awful lot) thanks to a Greyhound Bus service from Cleveland.)

Wow Robin...you got guts! You go girl ;)
Since we're on the topic, I am planning a college-visit out to California and Arizona, and have been thinking about the Embassy Suites in Buena Park. How far is this from Knott's and is it located in the "tourist" area?

SFOG Country - You can easily walk from the Embassy Suites to Knotts. I'd say its about 2500 feet north of the park entrance on Beach Blvd.
