Cobra Roll or Batwing?

Which of the two do you prefer? I thought the batwing on Montu was much better than the Cobra Rolls on Alpegeist, Raptor, and Ice. Maybe it is just because it is more of a unique experience though. How come B&M does not put these on more of there coasters?

I've been through both on both sit downs and inverteds. On inverteds, I love both. Montu's batwing is intense, and Deja Vu's boomerang is very disorienting (where on Montu you go way to fast to think about orientation.)

Sit downs, I far prefer Kumba's cobra roll over Shockwave's boomerang/pretzel turn/kamikazi turn/cobra roll/whatever it's being called at the moment. Kumba's isn't too slow, or too fast, and was very smooth. Shockwave's boomerang is taken very slow, and is jerky. At least it's one of the smoother parts of the ride (IMO)

Okay I'm not too familiar with inversions. Can you in some way explain the difference between all those inversions. Do you have pictures? I didn't realize there were quite so many different names for almost the same exact thing.

They are the B&M names. Vekoma has different names for them, as does Arrow. Because of that, it gets confusing... Too confusing...

Yes, I agree with Tribiggar.I'll explain them for RCT. A Cobra Roll is Half Loop, or large loop, followed by half corckscrew, then the same type of half corckscrew, followed by another half loop. A batwing would be half corckscrew, half loop, half loop, same type of half corckscrew. Then I could go into sea serpents, bowties, a boomerangs, but I'm not going to explain all the different names and slight variatons.

I'm pretty sure that I prefer batwings on both sitdowns and inverts. It's a close call on sitdowns, but far and away I prefer batwings on inverts. There are just so many Gs on Montu and TG:TJC. The only cobra roll that is near the intensity is Alpengeist. But I think I like the boomerang on Shockwave just as much as I like the cobra roll on Knight Flight.

They're both great elements, but I prefer the Batwing. (on inverters) I guess it's just because there's less of them. For sitdowns I enjoy cobra rolls.

I think I perfer Batwings too, but there have been some Cobra Rolls that have stood out for me (Ice, Kumba, and Alpie). Hulk's is pretty cool since it's so massive.

Honestly, I like batwings better. I know that Cobra Rolls are more common now a days,especially on B&M coasters, yet I find that not only are they more intense on the rider but also on the trains themselves. One can notice the difference in the ride between Dueling Dragons' Fire and Ice coasters. Fire seems much smoother while Ice is a bit rougher. Also, I notice that the Ice trains feel "looser" where Fire feels tight and sturdy. Fire does not have a cobra roll...Ice does...and its a very tight cobra roll.

Now, as for Hulk...its a much larger cobra roll...and I like it. I guess I can say that I enjoy cobra rolls when they're built very large.

My friend Sjonnie comments..."I like cobra rolls on sit-down coasters and batwings on inverted coasters." I can agree with him here as well.

While I have never ridden an inverted batwing, I will say this. Huge cobra rolls like Hulk, Robin: TC (who could forget Robin's!) and Alpengeist seem to have more g's and are great. Others like on Two Face, Medusa, and Ice Dragon seem much more dull. Sit down batwings are good, but not great.

Thanks for the help. I guess I knew that a cobra roll was just a boomerang, I was just kind of unsure on the batwing. Is a pretzel turn/kamikazi turn the same thing?

I love batwings and cobra rolls. I don't prefer either one. I personally think batwings are more intense and pack more G's-ala Montu- but cobra rolls are very distorting and such.

Definetly Batwings. I don't "feel" anything on Cobra Rolls. They don't impress me. They're just fun to look at.

Give me a batwing anyday,,,the first time id ever experienced one was on Top Gun at Carowinds....LOTS of G's through that thing.

However, i think after the first time i rode Alpengeist my all time favorite became the Immelman...dunno why, but when they are fast and swift, like on Alpie, they are in credible, and very few coasters have them it seems like.

David: I *so* concur! The I-man has to be my favorite of all (well second favorite, the Vekoma "rollover" is my favorite as it combines an I-man with a Split-S!). It's not suprising that my four favorite inverts (Montu, TG:TGC, Alpie, Talon) all have this element. That's the perfect move for an invert.

Immelmans are my favorite elements hands "up"!

The immelmans on Great Bear and Talon were so great. G's then a whip, airtime, and pull out.. Pure Bliss!
