Coasting for Kids 2011

Yes, if it is the same as last year. There was a table set up in front of racer with information about GKTW. There was even 2 teenagers that donated $50 each and were let ride with the C4K gang. I thought that was incredibly cool.

I think the numbers get sent in to the park tomorrow afternoon, but I'm not 100% on that.

This year you might see those two teens opting to pay the $50 for front of the line access for the day.

I crunched the numbers and it now looks like we have topped $50,000 when you include donations and registrations.

Way to go!!!!

Yep... we crossed $50k this morning (or maybe it was afternoon for y'all out there). I've got a couple hundred more to add still. I certainly wouldn't mind a final push toward $60k!

Wow, that's awesome! I'll be honest, I was skeptical about us reaching $50k!

The email I got from GKTW said noon on Friday was the cutoff for determining the top 3 fundraisers -- for Cedar Point, at least. But we can still raise money through October 24th.

Same for Dorney. I still have gotten no info on parking, or exactly where registration will be. Despiten being partially deaf, I guess I'll play it by ear. Other than that, I guess I'm all set, aside from picking up some sunscreen lotion. Normally, my bald head is fine, since I only take my cap off when actually riding. But 6 hours on Steel Force? The hat's staying in my pocket, baby!

I won't have access to a computer that works after 1pm today, so:

For everyone participating in C4K, good luck and have a blast!

For those not participating, thanks for your support, and I know you'll be with us in spirit!

To all my donors/sponsors..Thanks! You're the best! Including my one CB donor, of course!

Thanks for everyone's support on my Coasting for Kids page. Looks like I came in 2nd place with a total of $1281.24 for the Worlds of Fun event.

Between all of the parks participating in Coasting for kids we have raised over $55,000 for Give Kids the World.

Thunderstorms have re-appeared in Sunday's Allentown forecast. I'm certainly glad the event is not today or tomorrow...100 degrees. Looks like a high of 88-89 Sunday.

Congrats everyone! I came in #4 for Kings Island! Looks like it may rain on the Racer that day, too!

Good work everyone, thanks for all the donations and help.

Yep, calling for rain in Sandusky, as well as a heat index over 100! Oh well, we already did the important part. Cedar Point alone brought in just over $17k, and I had the 2nd highest. I think it's pretty cool that a family who actually benefited from GKTW came in first. :)

Looking forward to joining my fellow CP'ers in person and the rest of you in spirit on Sunday!

Incidentally, I believe I finished #5 at Dorney. A co-worker gave me $25 cash shortly before the noon cutoff. I entered that on my page, but that was the last time I checked.

Now what to do...

Since I came in 2nd place for WoF, the "prize" is 4 tickets to you guessed it WoF. We all have platinum passes so we get in on those anyways.

So any ideas what to do with the prize tickets?

I am not interested in selling them unless the funds went to GKTW, but I would also like to see them go to someone that could use them and that could not go afford to go otherwise.

I could also give them to other enthusiasts that helped me get to the total.

Your thoughts???

I was wondering the same thing for me, Dave. I figured I'd ask someone when I'm there Sunday. Most of the people I would think of taking with me to HalloWeekends already have season passes. There's also supposed to be a behind-the-scenes tour, and I don't know if that can be separated so that I can give away the admission tickets but still do the tour with my friends. I'm sure we'll figure something out.

Wow, just saw all the T*R donations. I got one from them, but guess I should hang out a bit over there for next years funds?

Did you insert the astrics, Billy or is that a Jeff thing? Either way, it is understandable.

I really hope that you are kidding about hanging out over there. lol

ALTHOUGH, it is telling that even though "we don't like them" (lol), they supported the cause anyways, which is a surprisingly grown-up thing to do.

The spreadsheet showed about $57k at noon, so if everyone keeps pushing a little longer, we can destroy $60k. Go for it!

Psst, Bryan - Josh doesn't have a season pass :) In any case, I'll see ya at 6:30 on Sunday, and I guess I'll be prepared for rain!
