Coasters closed for "unusual" reasons

^ I see it now "Carowinds fright fest! Come and enjoy the scare of Halloween with rides featuring ghosts and goblins, and most of all BEES! It will be the scarific end to the season."

Sounds real stupid, what was I thinking.

One time at SFGAm, I was told Batman: The Ride was closed due to a "guest behavior emergency."

What the hell does that mean?

About an hour later, after the ride reopened, it became obvious that someone had murdered one of those gigantic stuffed animals in the queue, as there was stuffing all over the place. Since they obviously didn't bother to clean it up before reopening, it makes me wonder if everyone in the park actually got punished for the crime.

Don't know why this hasn't been mentioned yet, but isn't Steel Dragon 2000 only closed right now because of Superstition?

Chattanooga needs a ITG2 Machine!
mebbe the bees think 'metal tree with deep footers safer than tree with shallow roots'.

hmmm i need to think about stuff more i think.... am i that bored i'm gaining insight into the thought process of a bug? probably - I am at work today, after all ;)

I've never really seen bees swarming coasters but Wasp I have.

And it's mainly in the spring or fall before or after the leaves are on the trees.

My idiotic conclusion.

They like tall things!

I was saying suck it up to the idiot who wants to sue for being stung at a park. This type of lawsuit is exactly why the american legal system is backlogged. People today sue over things that 10 years ago would have been a visit to a hospital and then forgotten. People should be glad that judges don't see things like I do cause if I was a judge and a case like this came before me the complaint would get brought before me and I would stop the opening arguements and rule as follows: Defendant wins Plaintiff pays all court costs plus the full salaries for the day of the lawyers on both sides and my salary for wasting all of our time. READ your ticket people. You sign away the right to sue for these kinds of things.

I do understand the seriousness of a bee sting on an allergic person, as stated I am one of the said people. A fully stocked first aid station will carry the supplies to correct a bee sting so as long as the first aid station is properly stocked then the park should have no reason for being sued.

As for rides being close for such stuff I have never witnessed it but I still would call it a defense against the idiots that do sue over petty things and the general stupidity of the human race. "Oh no a bee. Let me swat it away." Good move, you just pissed it off and now it is going to sting someone.

Watch the tram car please....
You can blame me for the demise of Drachen Fire. I complained about bees swarming at the top of the lift hill. The Ride Op seemed to care less so I reported it to Guest Services.

That was the last day Drachen Fire was ever open.

I couldn't find the previous thread, but I'm sure that I read somewhere on this site that wasps were attracted to the smell of certain types of oil and grease found on the lift hill of a wooden coaster. A park did a study on different types of hydraulic fluids and chain grease to determine which attracted the fewest stinging insects.

If I remember correctly, the insects are especially drawn to the oily smells of the lift hill when the insects normal food smells are gone (early in the spring and late in the fall).

There was a huge swarm of bees when I was riding Son of BEEast last year around mid-October. It was about 2/3 of way up the lift hill. My daughter was terrified of them.
Although I don't know if it closed the ride at any time, there are frequent moth swarms at the high parts of Le Monstre at La Ronde. Also at La Ronde, they have a large population of groundhogs...I have seen on one occasion a ride (the boomerang clone) temporarily closed due to a few groundhogs mucking about in the queue.

The first time I visited PKI, Face-off had to be closed due to many people complaining (including me and my sister) about the intense rain hurting us. There were no signs of thunder or lightning, just very heavy rain.

Ahh yes the infamous chain break on Supes how can we forget that?I'm I remember it was Jeff that was on the ride when it broke....LOL.

A good reason for insect swarms on lifts could be due to the noise from the motors, keep in mind that bees get agitated quite easily by the vibrations caused by that.

I've been a "regular" at GAdv. for 4 years and I've never heard of a ride closing for this problem.

Hobbes: "What's the point of attaching a number to everything you do?"
Calvin: "If your numbers go up, it means you're having more fun."

Magnum was closed once because a couple girls had stuffed a bunch of toilet paper in their shirts and then streamed it out for the on ride photo teepeeing the track. They had to clean it off.

Grizzly at PKD (then just KD) was closed a bit when I was in line because a smoker/litter bug started a fire by throwing lit butt in the woods.

TTD was down for a while when the train stopped at the top of the tophat with riders...twice.

The Morgan stations (WT and Mamba) seem to get a ton of birds nests in them. They are fun to watch while the birds are building them, and when the eggs are hatching, but they don't close the rides. *** Edited 10/5/2005 11:10:14 PM UTC by RavenTTD***

Now that you mention it, I remember seeing Talon @ Dorney closed for a couple minutes once because someone threw a lit cigarette into the mulch under the loop.

"Life's What You Make It, So Let's Make It Rock!"
La Ronde's insect swarms are not dangerous or biting. They're similar I think to CP muffleheads. They're there only in june usually and its due to being on an island.

If I remember right it was originally closed because it lost a wheel that hit someone. We had this up on the board some time in the last year and I think that was the call. It's been superstition that's kept SD2K closed ever since.

Does anyone know if SD2K has ever re-opened? *** Edited 10/6/2005 1:25:24 AM UTC by Floorless Fan***
