May/June 2001 - 16 parks in 18 days!!!
Anyone who has ridden Knoebels' Phoenix during the Phoenix Phall Phunfest will probably agree with me! At some point during the night (after it gets completely dark, of course), the ride ops turn off the chaser lights. Due to all of the trees at Knoebels, and the fact that even the brightest areas of the park are dimly lit (at best), you can imagine what it is like rushing around the coaster's course, with only the moonlight to illuminate the steel rails.
I hear the Raven and Legend at Holiday World are great night rides as well... I intend on finding out soon!
No question....The Beast! At night this thing just rocks! Completely and utterly out of control.
Raven and Legend at night should be illegal...

"Hold on tight, with all your might, and enjoy your flight on the Raven!"
PKI's Top Gun is a blast at night.
The Riddlers Revenge At Six Flags Magic Mountain, In The Rain, Front Row, In The Dark For Halloween, KICKS BUTT! You Have To Do That One. The Best Coaster At Night By Far!
Best Wooden= Beast
Best Steel= Millennium Force
Thunderbolt at night is great (if it was actually running, that is.) You plunge in to the pitch black, come out in to the park, and then fall back in to darkness again before heading back in to the station.
I hate when parks over-light their coasters. If you wanna see, go on in the day. Night rides in the dark are an entirely different creature.

Could you describe the ruckus?
I personally love the Beast at night, however recently I rode SOB at night and that was great also. But I think I will stick with the father as the better of the two.

I would have to say Millennium Force.
The Legend is just plain dangerous at night. It's pitch black and the lateral G's are hitting you from all sides. I only did it once, and it was just scary at night. Raven was much tamer, but still much better at night. After those two, the Beast always has been and always will be one of the best night coasters.

!cheese!
LOL Jeff! I'd have to say that any coaster has a totally different feel at night, because of all the interplay of the lights and shadows. I haven't been on too many woodies, so I couldn't speak for that, but I love the Corkscrew at CP at night when all the lights are glittering and you whip over the midway to see more lights below. Or Disaster Transport (my baby) because the ride reclaims some of its glory since you can't see the cracks in the building that let in all the light. But any coaster is great, night or day. Just my thoughts!
