Coasters / Seatbelts

No disrespect intended toward the deceased, but all this talk about changing restraints is not necessary. You can step in front of a speeding car, jump off a bridge, and countless other ways to do yourself deadly bodily injury. Your life is in your own hands every day.
What about Texas Giant? I'm not complaining, but this is a violent ride, and they see fit to not even have seat belts. How many other monsters are considered safe without seat belts?
the grizzly and PKD's other big woodies ... they're not monsters, but still.
The question is really how far do you want to go to force people to protect themselves? Most safety systems are designed around the idea that people want to be protected. I think someone really wants to defeat them then they will. Putting everyone is locking, 6-point restraints to defeat the small percentage that actually want to put themselves in harms way is not the answer.

I agree with Jeff Finazzo.

Add Beast to the list of monster woodies with no seatbelts. In fact, none of the woodies at PKI have seatbelts.

I'm not an enthusiast. I just play one on message boards.

By NO means am I suggesting that it's what I *want* to see when I make these predictions....just that the TREND certainly suggests that society has progressively placed less responsibility on people to protect themselves, and more responsibility on government and businesses to protect them....the insurance industry has just made the process go THAT much faster....

....as always, MY opinions, YMMV, widely....

bill, sounding like a conservative??!!!??

Correction: None of the woodies at PKI have seat belts except for Beastie.

Actually, Beastie is the only coaster at Kings Island that has seat belts that go 'round the riders. There are safety belts on Flight of Fear, Face/Off, and Rugrats Runaway Reptar Roller Coaster, but all of those are measuring devices/backup belts for the safety bars.

And RideMan, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it's pretty much the same @ PKD, only Scooby Doo has the true "seatbelts"(though I didn't get to ride Hypersonic last year, went 3 days before it opened, so I don't know bout it), and I think the only ones at Carowinds that have them are Scooby Doo and maybe the Carolina Goldrusher, if I remember correctly.

Everytime I get on a ride, I pull the OTSR or Bar down so that it is comfortable, yet safe for the ride. I don't like to be stapled, but rather stapled and live than the possibility that I MAY fall out. On a wooden coaster, I usually try to have about and inch off of my lap, wich is more than enough to keep me in, and let me feel enough air.

The more I think about this Incident, the madder I get, seeing as how things turned out. Not that I in anyway wanted HW or the manufacturer to be at fault, But I was hoping for some freak accident. If there is a seatbelt, I always click it on, even in the car. When Your life was literally saved by a lap belt as mine was, you appreciate it more:).

Kiss me, I'm stylish!! :)

rollergator: Actually, I think you're sounding more libertarian than anything else, so you should be safe ;)
I don't believe that any ride at SFGAm has seatbelts as backup restraints. You either have OTSRs or lap bars, but thats it. Unless you're talking about the little bit of seatbelt that acts as a scondary connecting the harness to the seat, like on Batman: The Ride & Iron Wolf
