CoasterCon '03 or Coaster Mania??

This is not asking for a debate on which is better, but as a proud and new member of ACE (just joined three days ago) I have a choice to go to either the CoasterCon at Busch Gardens and King's Dominion in VA (I've been to both parks before), OR to go to Coaster Mania in Cedar Point (which now has the tallest, fastest coaster in the world, as you all know, and I have also never been there before).

So, with the fact that I've never been to a CoasterCon or Coaster Mania before what, do you think, would be the better one to go to for a new member?

Thanks,
John

It's easy to get bored at PKD, but BGW is outstanding. Tough call. Well, not really, only one park has Dragster.

Heh. Different strokes for different folks -- I've never gotten bored at PKD. Agreed about BGW, though.

CoasterMania will be far more crowded. It's also where I'll be myself, so take that for what it's worth.

I agree, PKD is one of my favorite *coaster* parks. That said, more than one day at PKD is a bit excessive IMO. I could *live* at BGW however. So the plan for me is to skip a few days at PKD, hit SFA during the week rather than the add on day, and squeeze in a day at Hershey Park.

Granted, TTD may be the single greatest ride ever built, but it's still one ride, with a multi-hour wait at this point. PKD, BGW, Hershey and SFA win this battle easily...

Your milage may vary. :)

Oh man, this is such a tough call for me. It may be the only time that I can get on TTD without the regular crowds being there, but I would also love to be part of the CoasterCon and get to indulge in all of the "extra" activities!
Johnny,
one thing to consider is that the line on TTD may not be all that much shorter for CoasterMania than on a normal weekday operation, especially later in the season (capacity)

I practically grew up at KD and BGW (even worked as a caricature artist at KD a few years) and have only been to CP twice, but I would still choose CoasterCon over one day at Cedar Point. As long as you can make it out to ride TTD some other time this year I'd say CoasterCon'd be more fun (Not that I've ever been to one or the other, I'm basing this opinion on the parks and the iteneraries)

Here is further comparison
(Please do not start a flame war over this list. I am merely offering comparisons and my opinions. Opinions can't be incorrect. They can only be stupid)

Cedar Point : PKD/BGW

Raptor : Give me Alpengiest any day

Blue Streak : Rebel Yell has more Air.

Millie :Nothing to compare, I guess. She is queen

Mantis : Eh, I guess Shockwave can't hold a candle

Mean Streak : Grizzly all the way, baby. It may not be as big, but nothing beats it's airtime tunnel.

Gemini : Hmm. I do love Gemini. No lo contendre

Magnum : I much (much) prefer Apollo's Chariot

Corkscrew : Loch Ness Monster is Arrow perfection

CK Mine Ride : Hmm. No Mine rides in Virginia. go to Hershey if you need one.

Iron Dragon : Big Bad Wolf beats ID's butt. With a stick

And at the Ace event you can also go to the pajama party!!!(lol) And you cant put a value on that!!
What does IMO mean? I see it so much.
I haven't been able to ride Dragster yet, but BGW is my favorite park and that alone I would take over Cedar Point (and then you get PKD as the bonus and if it's anything like PKI, I would love it). But since you've never been to CP, something new may be fun (especially if you won't get a chance to go another time this season). Only one park has Apollo's Chariot though. CoasterCon sounds best to me for both 2003 *and* 2004. :)

IMO = In My Opinion

Well, if you have never been to CP, definitely go there, but do not expect 10 great coasters.

Raptor=Alpengiest-no comparison. Alpi is miles more powerful and a all around better ride.

Magnum=Apollo's Chariot-Magnum all the way! AC is the tamest hyper out there, and for me, it is just not a very exciting ride.

Loch Ness=Corkscrew-of course Nessie.

Mean Streak=Grizzly-no way! Unless there are no trims on MS, Grizzly is a better ride any day(night especially). In fact, Griz is one of my top 10 coasters.

Iron Dragon=Big Bad Wolf-The wolf wins. Iron dragon was just too tame for my liking.

Disaster Transport=Avalanch-though disaster transport has to be the wierdest coaster I have ever been on, Avalanch is a more fun ride.

Rebel Yell=Blue Streak-both nice Allen family coasters with some good pops of air, but nothing spectacular.

Don't know what else to compare, so do what feels best!

Me, I'm totally at Coastercon this year!

I am not going back to Cedar Point until they throw Mean Streak's brakes into lake Erie. There should be a law against killing coasters like Cedar Fair does.

Thanks everyone for your posts! You really did make me think about where it is that I would like to go. I have been to BGW before (but a LOONG time ago, back when Drachen Fire was still there.. <sob sob>) and I have gone to PKD twice in the past two years (I LOVE XLC and Volcano). And although it would be really great to go to the CoasterCon in these two parks that I've already been too, I think it would be more fitting for me to "de-flower" my ACE membership with a park that I have never been to, that has some of the highest rated coasters.

So, I think I'm gonna bite the bullet and go to CP and stay at the Breakers!

Excellent choice!
