CoasterbuzzCon pickle...

Hey everyone, hope you had fun at SRM (those that went) and I'm really looking forward to next weekend. I'd like your opinions on my pickle/delimma.

I live in Greenville, SC and me and my buddy are making the trip to CBC. I'm taking the next day off as well cause I'd like to hit another park while I'm up there NEAR some parks I haven't been to. We're renting a car, so mileage isn't a problem, nor is distance. HOWEVER, we have to have the car back in Greenville, by midnight on Monday (might try and talk the guy into letting us turn it in overnight if we don't have to pay the whole next day's rate).

I'm thinking heavily about swinging through HW on that Monday, but I have a season pass to SF parks, so the thought did cross my mind about hitting SFKK since it's practically on the way back home. Either way, we're not gonna be able to get a whole full day in, but Monday's shouldn't really be that crowded (we hope) anywhere.

Any other suggestions... cause I'm listening. Thanks!

Hit SFKK. It's an underrated park with a decent collection. Thunder Run is an outstanding woodie, and Chang, well, It's B&M, and that explains itself. Twisted Twins seem to have their fair share of good days as well. It's very worth it, especially since you have a season pass.

Wash away us all. Take us with the floods.

That's what I was thinking too. It has some decent rides and we should be able to hit all the coasters and at least some of the flats by 3 in the afternoon or so.

HW just seems so inviting. But it's A.) 3 hours out of the way, and 9 from home, and B.) I already have the SF pass.

Thanks for your input though. I'd really like for someone to talk me out of SFKK. Haha.

Man, you have to hit HW! This park rocks. Just the fact that they have the Legend, the Raven and The Kochs are the nicest people you'll ever want to meet! I can't make it down there to SRM because of work and time constraints, but I'm going to try to make it before the season is over.

Homey, I haven't been to either park and cannot make a logical selection, but here is my suggestions:

a) We are going to both (HW & SFKK) in one day, June 24th. It's only 75 minutes one way between the two.

b) Out of all of the reports from the last 3 years, Holiday World is the place to go. I haven't seen a negative report from Santa Claus, but have seen plenty from SFKK.

I will still travel, unbiased, to both in June and want to have great rides on the 8 selected coasters. But, if you can go to both, don't hesitate. Also, Americana is less than 20 minutes away from PKI, which has the Screechin' Eagle. Rides for $2.00 isn't a bad deal.

Homey, read my SRM/SFKK trip report. You'll know what my opinion is after that.

the raven, legend, and zoombabwe are all well worth the drive to santa claus but because you have a 6 flags season pass i wouldn't miss kentucky kingdom for a ride on thunder run. if you can try to hit both....they are about an hour apart.....an extremely easy drive between them

Mark, your trip report is one of the MAIN reasons I have this dilemma. It's keeping HW thick in the running! I really wanted to get up there for SRM this year, but had no riding buddy.

Keep in mind, my real problem isn't travel between PKI and WHEREEVER, it's making sure I have enough time at the park to enjoy it PLUS getting the rental car back in time.

Homey - If I were you here is what I would do: Be at Kentucky Fried Kingdom when they open, hit all the coasters once (this should take 2 hours, depending on crowds/operations), and head to Holiday World. The drive is only a little over an hour, and you gain an hour passing through time zones: You can leave SFKK at 1pm, and arrive at HW a little after 1pm. The only draw back is that you lose the hour going back.

If I were to pick one or the other, I would chose Holiday World without a doubt. SFKK has some cool rides, but there is nothing there that can compare to either The Raven (Oh yes, I am now a believer after this weekend) or The Legend.

SFKK is ok, but I would feel more satisfied spending two hours at Holiday World than a whole day at Kentucky Fried Kingdom.

Someday there will be something here.

That's a great idea.. Do you happen to know the distance from Cincy to Santa Claus.... and from Louisville to Santa Claus?

I think that PKI - SFKK is around 110 miles. I'm not sure how exact that is.

SFKK-HW is around 75 miles or so. We went about 80 mph between the two this weekend, and were pretty much going with the flow of traffic.

It took us just over three hours last fall when we drove from HW to PKI, including stopping off for a sit down dinner.
