You do realize that I used to do that junk myself, right? Back when cutting tape meant actually cutting physical tape? I honestly don't want it to sound like radio. It's bad enough we use expensive microphones and drop in the compressor to enhance Gonch's golden tones. I like not sounding like radio.
Proudly, I've never used the term "cutting tape."
I'm just sick of you reading your own disclaimer. And you would not want to do your own voiceover work. If anything, that screams radio. College radio.
Get some people from the boards on the show, maybe when a week is heavy into a park or area have a boardie who "specializes" in that park on the show. Also mail bag would be pretty cool.
And if Jeff reading the copyright and stuff is college radio, then TWiT, run by a guy who does professional radio, is just as much of a college show...
No Mole...Wasn't referring to the disclaimer as being college radio-ish. But, the copyright read by professional voiceover makes the podcast sound professional and the copyright legitimate. The one thing about the CBuzz podcast that stands out, to me at least, is an attempt to attack topics with a somewhat serious, analytical style. The NPR of enthusiast podcasts. Why not add to the professionalism?
Not really sure of your overall point, either.
And what is wrong with branding your product with some sound? Its lazy not to. Does Pepsi package soda in a logoless, grey can?
If you're representative of the prevailing attitudes in commercial radio, then that's probably why it sucks. Nobody cares about what "sounds professional," they care about the content. I could ring up a half-dozen really good production guys in top-10 markets who would rattle this junk off for me gratis, but why bother? So I can make the beginning and end sound like radio? That doesn't serve me or the audience in any meaningful way.
Reminds me of one of Howard Stern's rants about schmuck program directors who talk about "selling the calls." Ha! It's too bad most people have never been exposed to that nonsense to get the joke.

Its not about "sounding" like anything. Its about taking care of your product.

The best way to get people to understand your perspective is to call them lazy. ;)
I think the intro and outro music on the podcast already provides that extra "spark" if you will. As far as creating a sound bite for the copyright, I really think that's a sure fire way to get people to tune it out. I listen to it every week, because Jeff is saying it and I am listening to Jeff.
I don't really think providing it live each week loses anything, but that's just my opinion.

And thats exactly what I did :)
But seriously, content is important, not denying that at all. And people DO care about professionalism, give listeners some credit. They wouldn't be tuning in otherwise.
But why do you think what they are providing now isn't professional?

Dude, are you just hurt that I'm not interested in what you offered me? This isn't "product," it's a bunch of coaster nerds talking about freakin' airtime, not some masturbatory morning show jock leading out of breaks with innuendo-saturated stabs. I got over that crap more than a decade ago, and judging by the freefall that radio ad sales has been in for years now, so have a lot of other people.

Hurt? No. Am I after your last post? Maybe a little. That was a nice gesture on my behalf. Especially since I offered my time and services free of charge.
But back to the ACTUAL argument...

The fact that this isn't some morning show "jock" (you obviously are old school) was my point a few posts up. You're not Howard Stern, but you did make the comparison. King of all Podcasts? I think not, but still a decent...thing (was going to say product, caught myself).
But some sort of imaging/sound to seperate the closing theme and the off-topic banter at the end WOULD clear up any confusion. Thats one example of how some production would help.
What confusion? I thought the outro music already breaks up the end of the podcast and the banter.
I'm just not understanding the point of this discussion. As a listener and audience member, I'm not getting that anything is missing.
What's unprofessional about the current intro and outro music accompanied by a live welcome and send-off?

How is the term "jock show" old school? It still applies to many of the stuff on the radio in the morning when I go to work...
Mole: Who says jock show? No one I work with.
Carrie: If you look at an earlier post someone questioned whether that was supposed to be there or not. A simple SFX would ensure that EVERYONE knows that it's done by design. Again, a small example. I can edit toghether a sample, if you wish.
I remember now why, despite a promising and fast rising career in radio, I got the hell out. Everyone always thinks they know better, and yet everyone works for crappy money at stations that flip formats and staff once every few years. Don't be one of those people.
Do you really think it matters, or that I wanted people to know whether or not the trailing Easter egg was on purpose?
Carrie has heard one of your samples already.

The only thing I ever sent you was making fun of your typical "rock radio" bump or segment intro. In other words, poking fun at the big sound of radio. Something you told me from day one you didn't want.
And don't you worry about my career, I'm doing ok :)
Here's a great moment that totally mocks what I find hilarious about radio...

I'm glad you're doing well. I really am. I for one would have a hard time with Clear Channel signing my checks. No company has done more to harm local media than that company.

That is funny! And my checks are only partially signed by Clear Channel. The rest is from a private company based in New York.
Someone might have mentioned this, but I think it'd be cool if you had other coaster enthusiasts phone in and talk about a new ride or event that Jeff, Mike, and Gonch (or whoever is on the show) didn't get a chance to ride yet or attend or whatever. Almost like a correspondent to report on something that you guys haven't experienced yet.
Anyone agree?
