CoasterBuzz at nine years

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

CoasterBuzz celebrated the ninth anniversary of its launch on January 30. Here are some of the changes over the years...

First iteration of CoasterBuzz

Launching on January 30, 2000, CoasterBuzz made its debut as a portal site with this layout. For several weeks before this launch, a bulletin board held its place, back in the days when it was fashionable to say that you were "under construction." The site also entertained rumors at the time, which were a fun distraction, given the insane roller coaster building boom led by Six Flags. Highlights of that year included extensive IAAPA coverage.

Second iteration of CoasterBuzz

The second version of the site, launched in the summer of 2001, dropped rumors and began establishing itself as an authority for news from around the amusement industry. It was also the year that CoasterBuzz Club launched as a means to support the site and organize a new online club model for enthusiasts.

Third iteration of CoasterBuzz

A year and a half passed before the third version of the site was launched, emphasizing track records for members and sporting a more modern (for the times) look. It was also a new milestone for the forum features. This arrangement was maintained for more than five and a half years.

Fourth iteration of CoasterBuzz

Finally, after years of staring at the same site, the current version launched on September 1, 2008. Since this release, a number of small tweaks have been made, including a drag-and-drop track record for members. There are more new things to come, so stay tuned!

Great job guys! I hav eenjoyed watching this site for several years! I have now joined the community!

Life is like a rollercoaster! It is full of ups and downs!

Congratulations Jeff, on the accomplishment. This is a very well managed site. The main reason I decided to join this board instead of the others I checked into is the quality of the other users. Here we can have intelligent conversations and even when people disagree with each other they are civil about it. On almost every other board I checked, it seemed that people resorted to name calling, insults and swearing at the slightest hint of a comment they didn't agree with. Thank you to Jeff and all of the other users for making this a great site.

My mother (1946-2009) once asked me why I go to Magic Mountain so much. I said I feel the most alive when I'm on a roller coaster.
2010 total visits: SFMM-9, KBF-2

We still get people like that now and then. We try to chase them away. :)

Thanks for keeping me around Jeff ;)

Nine years already? In some ways it definitely feels like almost a decade... in other ways, it seems like it came and went in the blink of an eye. I think back to all that has happened since I first joined Coasterbuzz and it's pretty amazing. This site has definitely made it possible for me to make many new friends, and I am extremely thankful for that. I haven't been around here all that much in recent months but that could always change very quickly.

I've had it out with many of you including quite a few that have disappeared, and I'm sure there will come a day when we disagree once again, but right now I extend my thanks to everyone for something that has been a truly memorable experience.

Now that's all the sentimentality you'll get out of me until the 10th anniversary ;)
