I got Coaster Works for the Dreamcast a couple weeks ago. And I personally think it's an OK game, but a great game for those who just want coasters. What do you think of the game? For those who have it.
I have been waiting for that game for the longest time. I mean... a loooong time. I don't know what the delay was, but it finally came out!!!
Well, guess what?
I hate to say, and I really mean this... I hate to say it, but it is pretty disappointing.
They are on the right track, but here is why it really irks me:
1) The track is very angled. They aren't smooth around curves.
2) You can't custom color the track at first.
3) You can't dip down after the station and THEN use a chain lift. In fact, you never see a chain lift. It just assumes that your first hill is a lift, and if you have a dip out of the station. Forget about it!!
4) The sounds are horrible. The screams are a complete joke, and the coaster SFX aren't convincing enough.
5) You only got a sit-down coaster choice! C'mon... where's the inverted, suspended, stand-up, or wooden??
6) There's only a measly 6 levels INCLUDING one hidden!!!
6a) The first 3 levels you can breeze by in like 10 minutes.
6b) There's no real challenge to the levels.
7) You can't quite adjust the track exactly to your liking. If you bend the track, you have to use the given length, you can't shorten it at all. Especially annoying on the drops.
8) It seems just a little too "blunt"... I mean, you build the coaster, ride it, and it gives you a rating. You can't really judge it from other angles, there's no free-mode to wander about your creation, and the levels end too quickly!!
As much as I tried to love this game... I didn't.
Sorry, but I won't be importing my copy of Jet Dream Coaster 2, no matter what IGN Dreamcast gave it for a rating!
I think I'll wait for the No Limits Coaster builder if it ever gets complete. Now THAT is what I want!
What did you all think??
