Coaster Safety - NBC News

For those in the Chicago area, tonight's NBC News at 10pm is doing a report on coaster safety. Of course their promos are putting the "dangerous" spin on the topic. During the promo they say "How fast is too fast?" and "How high is too high?" They show footage of TTD during the voice-over. I believe the basis of the story is supposed to be the affects of coasters on the human body.

It will be interesting if they tell the facts or do a more sensationalized story.

Hhhmmm??!? I wonder which it will be.

I believe I saw S:UF in the promo from a few nights ago as well. I'm thinking it's just another May Sweeps program, so I'm leaning towards it being a more sensationalized story. Although, they did mention a byte about doing something 'for the first time.'
I dont know what everyone's problem is, I've been ridin coasters for years, and all I have is a bad back!

Just saw the segment. They had a Chicago newsperson out at CP in front of TTD. They also had footage of S:UF at SFGAm. Basically what they discussed has already been covered numerous times.

The only person they interviewed that had doubts about safety of coasters is a personal injury attorney representing a girl who experienced head trauma after a day at SFGAm.

They also interviewed a guy from CP(I believe it was the parks GM), and Jim Wintrode(GM of SFGAm). Walter Bolliger was also asked how they test coasters for human safety.

Overall, it was a non-bias segment.

It's nice to finally find a news segment on coaster safety that isn't full of Markey speak and doomsaying.

Although, I'm curious, what company does Mr. Bollinger work for? ;)

Seriously, though, did Uncle Walter say anything incredibly interesting that we wouldn't normally expect to hear?

I made the segment. When they were at media day for SFGAm talking to the safety engineer and the train went through the station, you can clearly see me. I am the only person in my row.

I might as well brag before the park opens.
