Coaster Dynamics releases more pictures of The Comet wood coaster model

I guess I was wrong about Balsa being cheaper. Oh well, the only thing I don't like about this model mainly is the layout. I hope they have a larger one in the works, then I'd be all for buying.

I guess you can't please everyone.

Forgive the "uneducated" on this topic, but will this particular model (wooden) be adaptable like the inverted model? As in you can build your own design?
Coaster looks good, im looken to see and hear more about it...
I currently have a full scale amusement park display my company is building for a local museum..
The park will take up 14 outta the layouts 200 feet,
It will feature 19 rides including a custom hyper coaster allready under construction

I also have a Big Dipper that works seamlessly on a traveling display that moves through Western NY.

If all goes as plan i'll have to convince the Museum to add this model to the park!

I definatly am looking forward to seeing what comes out as a final product *** Edited 7/12/2005 2:24:55 AM UTC by TopSpinJay***

The model is "as is" and isn't customizable like the Dragon or Scorpion. I'm sure if you really wanted to you could buy several kits and try to put them together and build somthing bigger! I'm sure Jack wouldn't mind! :)
That is tight.

Speaking of Coaster Dynamix when is Brad finishing the Raptor model? When is he going to actually talk to anybody?

Is this the Raptor model? I'm assuming it is, since I don't know of any green coasters with that layout...

Yeah. I think he's done with it.

Yes, that's it but it's not in its finished form. That's just the track. I was there shortly after Brad and Mike finished setting it up at CoasterCon (where those photos were taken).

He plans on building a station, landscaping, and the works (beginings of which are seen here). As I understand it, it'll end up displayed in Town Hall at CP. I'd ask Brad myself, but he's super hard to get a hold of lately.

No reason for you to be an ass about it when you don't have any idea what I was talking about.

John, if you think nesdude was being an ass, you're awfully thin-skinned.

Besides, the only reason he didn't know what you were talking about is that you didn't describe what you meant. I was thinking the same thing as nesdude. I never heard of the project to make the building, etc... *** Edited 7/12/2005 2:47:27 PM UTC by redman822***

From what I understand, work continues on the Raptor model. I doubt he'll make it by the end of this season, so expect to see it in the park next year.
Topspinjay,

Is that model in the railroad museum in Medina? If so I will have to check it out. Also if you live in the area, and know where Ridge Road Station is, they have an inverted model they purchased from me. Let me know if you've seen it.

Jack, what is the track length included in the Scorpion and Dragon models respectively? I've found the overall dimensions on the coasterdynamix website, but not the track length. Thanks!

That display were setting up is in Medina. I've heard of the Ridge Road Station model, but I have yet to take a trip out there. I think they even have it in the windows? I may have seen it driving by
we just started on site construction of the display mabie about 2 weeks ago.
My shop is currently restoreing 9 Cummons Scale Amusement Inc. rides that was donated to the museum and were banged up a bit.
The coaster was designed in No-Limits and with scale rulers and grids were turning it into a real life ride.
last year the designer built a static one just to see if the program was true to form and it worked out nicely, so hopefully when all is said and done it will be a spectacular working ride.

Currently were on target to finnish installing equipment in Late September for there fall season so hopefully we'll be ready with the operating rides atleast by then.

The video is up on our site now.
Jay,

Yes, it is in the front window. Also it sounds like you live in the area. If you're ever near the Rochester Museum and Science Center, I have another model there that they purchased. It's a sit down model with 4 inversions. It has a B&M look to it where the one at RR station looks a little more like an Intamin inverted. The models are by no means meant to be detailed models. They are more for entertainment of the visitors to each place as there are buttons for the people to push to make the coasters run.

From the videos of it, and other CD coaster models, it look cheesy. It goes WAY to fast to be like a real rollercoaster, if you don't beleive me, go here and watch the video: http://www.coasterdynamix.com/video.aspx

The comet goes like a million miles and hour and just zooms around the track, way to fast to even seem real, so fast in fact the video camera cannot even keep up with it.

I'll take Rollercoaster Tycoom myself thank you!

Or with the left-over wood I have, I could use my 300 acers of land and build a nice terrain coaster for that... ha ha ha (seriouse)

If they can get it to go the speed of a real rollerocaster, they got something. But until then, it's not worth $160 to me. *** Edited 7/13/2005 9:40:20 PM UTC by Landon***

I guess we'll cross you off the list.
Um you do realize its not going anywhere near as fast as a real roller coaster. They even said that it looked faster in the video.

i'm not sure what to put here..

As I said before I think this is the one of the coolest models I've seen. No model coaster will ever be to scale speed until gravity can be scaled down. I know model railroaders will love this. This is the only working wooden coaster model out there that you can order in the form of a kit for a pretty good price. I'm sure the people on HO layouts could care less about how fast it goes unless they are enthusiasses! :)

Maybe you should stick to Rollercoaster Tycoom! (seriouse)

What CD coaster models are you talking about? RCT and No limits? They are simulations not actual physical models.

"What CD coaster models are you talking about? RCT and No limits? They are simulations not actual physical models."
Well, at least in No Limits or RCT, I can actually go 50mph on my rollercoaster I built.

I'm sorry if I came over in a mean way. It's amazing what these guys are doing, and its something that I would NEVER attemplt myself, because im stupid and cant build my way out of a box, more less a working model coaster.

These type of things where just never my "Cup of tea", I never did much care for scale model trains, ect, and somehow, I don't think this would be any different.

In RCT and NL, it may not be real, but at least you can get the physiscs down to a more "Real" level than with the real model.

The guys at CD are doing a GREAT job at making a working model, that's just not my cup of tea.

All models take are pratice. I'm sure you first few RCT coasters wern't that great, neither were mine. After a few designs they start to look and run alot better. The same way with models.

Jack, What skill level would you say you will need to be to buy it, and put it together and have it run?
