Coaster Company Pronunciation

I was wondering how to pronounce some company's names so I dont sound like a fool when I say them. Is Intamin pronounced `In ta min or In `ta min? Also is Vekoma with a long or short e?

In Intamin, the stress is on the first syllable, I'm pretty sure. Also I think the "e" in Vekoma is the schwa sound (like "uh").

Vekoma, short e. Intamin, I'd stress the first syllable a bit, but that one I'm not so sure....

On Intamin would the a be an "uh" sound or a short a?

how about Bolliger and Mabillard? I always belive i am pronouncing it right but sometimes i am unsure.

Actually Vekoma is pronounced Vay-coe'-mah. With the emphasis on the second syllable. I got that straight from one of the Vekoma engineers during Batwing's media day.

Intamin = Inn-tuh-min

Mack = well...MACK!

Actually Mack is pronounced "mo" as the "ack" is an Americanization of the French "eaux." Also there is an umlaut on the "a." And I'm pretty sure there's a tilda in there somewhere. heh.

I think Bolliger and Mabillard would be of French origin. So...bo-lee-ZHAY and ma-bee-YAR.

Wouldn't the "er" be pronounced "ay" and the "ard" be pronounced "ar" Think of the word for duck, canard. It is pronounced "canar" not "canarD" I know the people in those videos and TV shows say "mah-bee-ard" but that is complete Franglais! ;)

The funny thing is that Intamin is an acronym. It stands for INTernational AMusement INstallation (taken from The American Roller Coaster by Scott Rutherford). So, I wouldn't stress over the pronunciation.

The word "definitely" is definitely the most misspelled word on the buzz.

Mack is a German company, Den, and there is no umlaut. It's Heinrich Mack, GmbH. I'm not certain whether it's a long or a short "a", though...I think it's a short "a" so that a large Mack Wilde Maus could share its name with a famous hamburger.

You're right! Technically, for B&M, the "d" of Mabillard is silent. The French langauge does not pronouce the letter "d" at the end of a word in most instances. So it's really "moe bee yar" As for Bolliger, I think that's a name from the German speaking part of Switzerland, so I'm not familliar with its pronunciation. (I'm a French teacher and have lived in France!!!)
