Coaster Club members invited to S:UF media day?

I know that sometimes members of coaster clubs like ACE are invited to media days for their "expert" opinions. Does anyone know if SFOG is inviting members of coaster clubs to go to the S:UF media day on April 5th?

Expert opinions?

Sometimes enthusiasts are (gasp!) invited anyway!

My thoughts exactly, Agent Johnson. While some of us may know more about coasters than the GP, we're by no means experts!

Yes, sure they are. However, there has been this long standing theory that if you belong to a club, you've got some automatic "in." It has never been further from the actual case, and some enthusiasts have made real pests of themselves as far as getting into these events.

The parks invite a controlled group of people they trust to said events. If that interests you, contact a representative of your club and ask them about it. Just don't approach it like it's owed to you.

Of course goofyrules just asked if coaster club members were invited. He didn't say it was owed to him at all. He just asked a simple question.
That was exactly my point in asking. I would never dream of trying to attend an event I was not invited to nor do I think I am owed anything for joining coaster clubs. I joined ACE and when I get some more money I will join Coasterbuzz and a few other clubs because I enjoy coasters and being with other people who share the same interests I do.*** This post was edited by goofyrules on 3/26/2002. ***

Goofyrules,

Glad to see you have a logical way of thinking. I also fully agree with Jeff on the fact that some enthusiasts truly do make 'enthusiasses' of themselves. There is nothing worse than watching a few bad club members acting in a very negative way at a media event while representing the club you are with.

Some parks invite less and less enthusiasts to ride openings due to unruly nature of some of their actions. It doesn't even have to be at the park for this to happen. You can bet that certain parks read boards like this from time to time and know who to invite and who NOT to invite. It's all about who the park can trust.

Sad to say though there still are those greedy individuals that think just because they are in a coaster club, they are expected to be invited to things like media day without question. I never have understood why people get that way when ride openings come. If they have been to a media day then perhaps they would understand it isn't like a coaster event. Perhaps parks can stop inviting enthusiasts all together. Then perhaps we would see a decline in those joining the clubs for, IMO, the wrong reasons.

I have to agree that some enthusiasts give the rest of us a bad rap because of their actions. I enjoy going to parks and spending time talking with other enthusiasts about one of my favorites activities, this is why I waste so much time on these boards. I am ashamed when I see other "enthusiasts" making complete fools of themselves over something like not getting invited to a media day. Like Jeff said the Media Days are for the media and if a park does invite some enthusiasts to attend I consider it an honor not a right. I am not offended in the least if enthusiasts do not get invited. True enthusiasts do not mind waiting in line on opening day to get an early ride. I even consider that as part of the fun of being an enthusiast and might do it even if I was able to ride a new coaster on a Media Day.

Sean, that's got me thinking....maybe we can have "those folks" start their own club. I suggest we have a contest for naming the Coaster Enthusiass club!

And since I am the creative force that I am, LOL, I'll start the ball rolling: We Enthusiasses Are Kings... (WEAK)...

goofyrules, thanks for helping us "show them the light", so to speak...

Bill,

LOL! That's very funny!

-Sean (who guesses there will be a fair share of members in that club soon)

I hope you dont mind rollergator but I thought this was such a good idea and since it is a bit off topic for this area I decided to open up a whole new topic for everyone to see and join in on called "We Enthusiasses Are Kings (WEAK)"
