CNN - Xcelerator takes riders upside down in Buena

Well, I've lurked around here for a while, but today I felt compelled to post after finding this incredibly accurate story on CNN.com

http://www.cnn.com/2003/TRAVEL/07/01/sprj.st03.theme.parks/index.html

On a side note, this ranking of top 30 parks may give a clue as to where they're coming from

http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/2003/summer.trips/top30.html

The highlights include Cedar Point being tied with Six Flags Great Adventure, as well as the Adventuredome being ranked as a top 10 park.

News to me, anyway.

I did see that thing about Xcelerator being wrong, but I couldn't find anything worg with the top 30 parks... in attendance.

Here's my question. We know that there isn't a picture of Xcelerator floating around on the internet that looks quite like that. Why the heck would CNN just fabricate it?

With all due respect, I'd be absoutely stunned if Morey's Piers took in more guests than Great Adventure. Could be wrong, but judging from CNN's fact-checking prowess on the aforementioned article, I doubt it.

I gotta try Xcelerator! WOW! A downward loop! I totally believe this!! </sarcasm>
Granted, CNN may be wrong, but look at whats below the list:

Source: Amusement Business.com Note: Repeated numbers indicate a tie in attendance records

I suppose, but one can't argue that attendence numbers are totally objective.

Regardless, I'm thinking of going out to SoCal sometime to try out this modified Xcelerator. Let's hope Cedar Point follows Knott's precident. Ooh. That'll have those L-TH-B believers put in their place.

You gotta admit, that turning this picture on its side does add to the drama.

Why am I not surprised? That Top Hat is so wild the GP & Media would think that they were upside down on it!

As for the pic, they also probably didn't know which was the right way up!,

MAnderson - I'd totally believe that Wildwood/Morey's pulls in more people than SFGAdv. Wildwood is always packed full of highschool and college kids.

When I lived in Jersey lastyear, I made 3 trips to Wildwood to go party and it was always packed. I never would've thought that it would've been that busy! But then again, with the almost unlimited supply of adult beverages, I'm not at all suprised :)

Now if I could only remember Wildwood after midnight..... Great place!

So is SFGAd.

By any chance, rOLLocOASt , have you ever visited Jenkinson's Boardwalk? That place seems to be packed to a level similar to Morey's abiet the place is arranged in a more strewn about fashion. Nowhere to be seen on that list, though. Still trying to imagine how they compile their attendence figures.

Anyway, provided the attendence figures are accurate, I'm stunned Cedar Point has the same attendance as Great Adventure. I guess a 420 ft. coaster doesn't really negate the fact New York and Long Island bus the masses directly down to Jackson daily.

Don't forget , that listing is from 2002 figures, so there was no 420' coaster yet...

"Another visitor. Stay a while. Stay FOREVER!"

Good point GregLeg, but it was a bit startling to see my homepark ranked even in attendence to such a famous park. Somewhat off topic, I'm curious if Cedar Point attendence dropped off following Millenium Force's debut year.
