Good idea. Keeping the guests away from the gator-filled bodies of water is also a good idea. ;)
I had a chance to visit in the late 70's and thought it was ok but them damn fish bitting me made made me not want to go back.

Hmmm, are we sure that feeding the gators is such a good idea? You try not to feed wild animals, so they don't associate people = food. Feeding wild animals would tend to attract more of them.
I did find that kind of odd. But maybe giving the gators other stuff decreases their appetite for human flesh?

^^ A 70-something lady in Jacksonville area (IIRC - somewhere in FL) lost her arm a year or two ago doing JUST that. Apparently her "complex" had been feeding them for awhile (mostly marshmallows, IIRC), and one of the gators decided that the old lady looked tastier. Certainly more nutritious.

LOL, I don't think any animals have a "taste for human flesh". We just don't taste too good. I think that's why most shark "attacks" consist of little more than an appetizer-type taste instead of someone being completely eaten.

Probably not a good idea to feed the gators. Think about it. If you invited Bill over for the weekend for free pizza and beer, what's the likelihood he'd keep coming back for more? :) I'm sorry; I couldn't resist it. :)
She fed that gator marshmallows? That was the best she could come up with?

I can see why it went for her arm... I couldn't fill up on marshmallows either.

I thought there was a law against feeding wildlife?

Well at least Darwin's law should apply. Stupid people become part of the food chain and thus should not procreate. :) Who would try to hand feed an alligator?
Wait? RC's pools had fish in it? Where they accidently pumped in or purposly put in?

Also how would a wave machine work out in an open lake that size? Dose anyone have any proof or pictures of a wave machine at the lake by the Poly hotel?

There was a picture of the wave machine floating around somewhere, but they stopped using it because it was washing away the sand on the beach.

It was put in to mimic the waves in the aloha state:)

When the resort opened in 1971, a wave-making machine created artificial waves that crashed onto the beach. Although it added to the authentic South Seas feel of the resort, it also created rapid beach erosion. Operation of the wave machine ceased shortly afterwards, but the machine itself is still located just under the waters off the Polynesian beach.

Here is a picture of the wave machine.

That's wild. What a shame it didn't work out.

Apparently, they did have swimming at this beach the year it opened as well. Something had to happen to make them change there minds about it.

I would think that they would have some sort of saftey nets of other deterant if it was due to the gaters.

We are going to be booking a trip to the carribean beach resort, and I think it is a bummer that there is a nice beach there and you cant even swim at it.

I like the concept behind that wave machine but it looks too industrial. I'm surprised the resort designers would have wanted guests to see something like that, considering it takes away from the "lose yourself in it all" mentality of WDW.

The wave machine is out of view of the public. The picture is a behind the scenes shot.

They use something similar at DCA. It really adds to the lagoon. You really notice when it's turned off. They even put it right next to the California Screamin' launch so they crash right next to the coaster.

That's right, they did. Maybe they took a machine or two from WDW? Disney does like to recycle quite a bit!

I don't think that Disney has ever traded rides with another disney park. But I am sure they have traded some of the machine's or other park related items.

I was referring to the way that old ride pieces often show up in new rides, especially when something takes the place of something else. Disney is pretty keen on paying homage to old attractions.
