Clones

Hey I just noticed that Chang at SFKK is a Mantis "clone" (I put quotes because it is mirrored) - I didn't think CP coasters were ever cloned - didn't think they'd allow it. Are any of their other coasters completely cloned like Mantis has been?
No check Chang Again I believe ti has a extra inversion or turn. Anyway Cedar Point Rides areusually not cloned but there is a first for anything

Hmm, 2003 at SFGAm look it's a Bird It's A plane It's S**** M**

Mantis is not a clone of Chang....Mantis has 4 loops Chang has an extra corkscrew and doesnt have a figure eight at the end.
O and Raptor is cloned.

I didn't think Raptor was exactly cloned - close but not exact. What is the clone called and where is it? And you are right now that I look closer - all the way to the end of the first corkscrew is the same - after that a little different with an extra corkscrew. Ok, I stand corrected - its still REALLY close, I figured CP would put up more of a fight than that of one of their major attractions being cloned ...

Personally I think clones will be the downfall of this industry ... get creative, these companies are good enough ... (yea I know, its all about the money)

And #1 fan - Chang would be a Mantis clone, Mantis was built in '96, Chang in '97 - but just a technicality
Pitt Designer...the coaster was called Orochi its located in Japan. I think B&M got the idea from Mantis I guess they they got bored of making clones at that time....
Chang is *not* a Mantis clone. The second half of Chang is completely different from the second half of Mantis. Take a look:

Mantis: http://www.rcdb.com/installationgallery7.htm?Picture=9
Chang: http://www.coastergallery.com/SF/sfkk05.html

Chang's first half is a slightly enlarged mirror imaged copy of Mantis'. After the block brake, everything between the two is different. Althought they are awfully similar.

Orichi is an EXACT CLONE of Raptor.

Why do they report power outages on TV?

You mean what stops B&M from copying a coaster. I dont think coaster desighns are copyrighted , but some time parks makes deals with the builder like you cant build this type of coaster with in 200 miles

-----------------
I just want to ride as many coasters as posible

Orochi is an a clone of Raptor just as much as the Batmans are clones. Dimensions may be a little off but they are still the same. Chang and Mantis are two totally different rides after the brake run. Chang in the much better ride IMHO.

Anyway whats wrong with a clone if its of a good ride? Not a darn thing. SLC's on the other hand well thats another story.

Orochi is an improved version of Raptor...a little bigger, too.

I thought Orochi had another helix. Am I wrong?

Actually, Raptor is smaller than Orochi. Orochi features many minor improvements from Raptor, which made it longer, while keeping the same layout. All in all, Orochi gave a better and more intensive ride to me than Raptor, but Raptor's crew was much better.

It basically like saying Orochi was Chang and Raptor was Mantis.

I am assuming that Orochi benefitted from the improvements that B&M made to their inverted coasters beginning in 1996- namely modified trains with more seat spacing and no torsion bar connecting them. Perhaps the transitions were made smoother too, as people say that newer B&Ms are "less forceful" than the older ones.
