Cleveland paper ranks Cedar Point, Worlds of Adventure coasters

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Cleveland's Plain Dealer sent a reporter to Cedar Point and Six Flags Worlds of Adventure to pick the top ten coasters in the area. The results may surprise you, as Mean Streak and Serial Thriller (a Vekoma SLC, or "hang-and-bang" as enthusiasts like to call it) both made the list.

As an area resident and yearly pilgrim to CP, I have to say I disagree with a number of the other posters. Mean Streak is a great coaster - yes, not as it once was, but clearly an excellent ride. Interesting, lots of positive and negative Gs, a little jittery, but very little breaking this last time, quite a long ride. I usually hit Mean Streak and Magnum a couple of times, the rest just once. I usually hit every coaster in the park in a day (except Mantis, which is a terribly designed, violent coaster that many people find painful to ride). I went two weeks ago, and I have to say I was disappointed in the Wicked Twister (I rank it 11th of 15 coasters). There isn't much there, and I think the very short line reflected this. So, my top five at CP would be Magnum XL, Millenium Force, Raptor, Mean Streak, Gemini.

I'll give you the fact that it's rough - I think it's one of the scarier coasters I've ever ridden (I don't know how else to describe it)

What do you mean "..isn't much there"? I personally think its a great coaster, but we all have our individual likes and dislikes, I guess. This is the first negative comment I've seen with regards to WT. Did you ride it in the back?

And that's not a CP top five anybody would laugh at. Welcome to Coasterbuzz.

I was at CP last Thursday and rode Mean Streak in the back. There were some moments of air time - nothing compared to Magnum or Millennium Force, but enough to get your butt off the seat for a brief second.

I was suprised.....

Tyler: Yep, it was a northern Ohio poll. I would remove Mean Streak and replace it with Mantis and put it over X-Flight and Serial Thriller. I would also put the Villian higher. Not a bad list though.

Sorry, ophthodoc, I posted a reply, but it didn't take.

I don't find Mantis scary at all, just painful and violent. I don't ever plan to ride it again. Beyond the high level of jarring, the restraints seem to be in a bad place for your ears. I think the Mantis made the King Cobra the removed from PKI, look like a dream. I give it zero stars (horrid) and a ranking of 15 of 15 at CP.

As far as the Wicked Twister, the ride was short, the twisting a minimal effect, and other than the rush of the initial start, the few moments of zero G (either forward or backward) was fun, but nothing like the rush provided by many of the other coasters. When I went, the line was maybe 20 minutes long, late afternoon. The line for the old bobsled coaster next to it was nearly an hour, so I guess I'm not alone in my assessment. Oh, and I did ride it in the back. I may ride it again, but I'd rather ride Magnum another time instead.

Thanks for the welcome!
