Clementon Chaos restraint fails

Posted Wednesday, June 22, 2005 3:59 PM | Contributed by Crashmando

A teen riding Clementon's Chaos said her restraint came open during the ride, prompting a shut down by operators. The incident is under investigation. A scuffle then broke out with a park employee when relatives of the teen tried to take photos of the ride with a camera phone. All were charged with assault.

Half of that article was made up.

I'm not sure what you are saying is made up since most of that article has been in all the press outlets in the South Jersey area. Seems like if the article was made up then articles in different outlets would differ. I am not going to say what part is not in the other accounts I have read.*** This post was edited by dragonoffrost 6/22/2005 2:48:05 PM ***

I'm not quite sure than Clementon would be too happy with a supposed employee of thiers speaking on behalf of the park in an incident like this in that manner. I am, however, very interested to see if Medusa is correct, or if the media is.

"She was secured by a security bar, which held her into the ride," Baker said. "She was also secured by a T-bar which secured her hands and feet. The T-bar is what she claims malfunctioned."

Last time I checked, Chaos only has a OTSR and that cage thing that comes down. There are no T-bars.

It sounds to me like the OTSR failed and she held on to the "cage" to keep from falling out. I don't think the "cage" is designed to be a back-up restraint though. With the OTSR open, someone could easily slid out of the cage thingy.

What you're calling a "cage" thing is a big T-shaped bar.

First generation Chaos's have a cage. After '97 Chance put T-Bar's on. Clementon does NOT have a first generation Chaos therefore their Chaos has the T-Bar.*** This post was edited by RidesKid133 6/23/2005 10:19:58 PM ***

If the T-Bar did not fail (I have a hard time believeing it snapped) then this EXACT same thing has happened to me. I have ridden a full cycle on a Chaos with the OTSR unlocked, no big deal.

Oh, now I understand. I thought that by saying T-bar Baker was talking about a lap restraint (like on the Intamin hypers), which Chaos obviously doesn't have. I never noticed before that the outer restraint looked like an upside-down T.

Well maybe this problem will get finally be fixed. Chance released 2 Service Bulletins for the T-Bars on Chaos. They also released a part for the T-Bar that will help with wear and tear. Maybe this could help end Chaos accidents.

Ah, so that is the reason CP's Chaos came down (and is already back up). Ask yourself, if your park's Chaos hasn't been shut down and/or fixed, what does that say about their concern about safety?

Our Chaos IS still down. The state cleared it to open, but it is closed due to the park's decision to keep it closed. If it's one thing I noticed, Safety is #1 at our park. I want to go ahead and assume that Clementon has been made aware of the bulletins, is reviewing them, and is following the information contained in them. I want to assume that they are reinspecting the ride and applying the new part to the ride (if needed). But once again, I do not know.

Hello folks!

I was at Clementon Amusement Park on regular basis since I have season pass, I have ridden it many times until near end of June, when the ride sat idle and unmanned for almost a month now, I grew suspectious, I called the park today and they don't have any much info but stated that all Chaos rides in USA have been shut down so suggested that I search the Internet so I was able to locate the article which was dated June 22 2005 so I tried to retieve the article from Courier Post but unfortunely, it is not free, it would charge me $2.95 for each article so I'll have to wait until tomorrow so that I can retieve the article for full details on what the heck going on with this ride sat idle for so long time, it is my top favorite ride :) If you managed to get a full copy of the article, feel free to ask me for my private email otherwise let me take care of it :) That is a surprise news to me!
