The band organ found in the classic PTC carousel now at Luna Park, near Sydney, will get a complete restoration at a cost of about $91,000 AUD ($46,000 USD). The overall cost to renovate the carousel will be $2.2 million AUD (about $1.25 million USD). The carousel originally arrived at the park in 1923. The organ was originally built in 1909 in Paris.

I am glad to see that some parks still take care of old classic rides.

Wow this is really great! Carousels too often go unnoticed, and I am glad that a trip to Knoebels boosted my once moderate affection towards them. They are, in my opinion, as important as the main gate!

Tsk, tsk, Jeff, you forgot to use your spellchecker. That's not how you spell Australia! No offense taken mate. :)

Just to say that is the Melbourne, not Sydney, Age. Yup, they're referring to Luna Park St Kilda in Melbourne. They announced an A$10million series of projects several months ago which included the A$2.2m for the carousel, refurbishing & purchasing new rides. One is replacing the old Pinfari Galaxy with a looping version, no news yet.

Oh, their site has more details, however is out of action at the moment. *** This post was edited by Taipan on 10/17/2001. ***
