Choppy

When i play rct3, the graphics are choppy. I bought an Ati Readeon(sp?) but it didn't work on my computer. Does anybody have any suggestions?

Thanks

Use the graphics menu to turn off/turn down any view options that aren't necessary to your game play. If that doesn't satisfy you, buy a graphics card that works in your computer, but be warned that complex parks will kill even the most powerful video cards.
No matter what kind of video card you have the game will always end up being choppy if you have alot of things in your park.

i'm not sure what to put here..

It depends on a lot of factors. Any of the following things could affect your performace:

* Your System Specs - How much memory, defragged HD, processor speed, etc.
* Not having up to date drivers for videocard, motherboard, soundcard, etc.
* Trying to put too many things into one park. Even the best machine can't use every single item on the same map!
* Up to date game - Have you downloaded the latest patch?

Any or all of these things could have a bearing on your choppy perfomance.

Also its dependant much upon your processor as well, comp specs are a biggy with this game.
yeah, don't you know you can't design a fully functional park with all the bells and whistles?

But to hear some of the fanboys here, it's not a bug or a design flaw, it's just part of the game.

I have a different opinion...I expect a current game to work well on my brand-new high end PC. I have a BFG 6800 256 MB OC video card and an AMD64 4000+ with 2GB of memory - this can handle every other game without any problems - only with RCT3 does it drop dead.

Here's a link to a thread from earlier this year talking about framerates.

I'd be interested to know the details of your problems redman. How many peeps? How many rides? Things like that. Because I really have no perfomance issues now and that is with less memory, a slower processor but the same graphics card (only 128 MB though). And I build pretty large parks.

So I'm curious.

Well, for me, if I build like 2 coasters and add scenery it will start to get choppy and then after that it just gets worse.

i'm not sure what to put here..

Check the thread he linked to. Multiple people gave system specs and test results. The files used are readily available in CB Games.

All the info is there.

I can run pretty smooth and build up to the whold sandbox pretty much, and can run anwywere from 3 fps to .1 fps, oh but its fun, choppy can happen many differant ways! ;)

Hmmm..and not a single one raised any severe complaints about perfomance back then. Even redman who just said in this thread performance "drops dead" said this back in January: "No frame drops here...on extreme mode, I range from 100fps down to 45fps depending on the scenery and time of day."

Hmmmmmmmmm...quite a conflict there. Wonderful in January but now it blows? Interesting.

Wow, that was some selective reasoning.

The whole thread IS concern over performance.

You'll also note where redman said:

Daydream Crag - 1,500 peeps
Day Watch 20-12 fps
Day Ride 24-11 fps
Night Watch 16-6 fps
Night Ride 30-6 fps

Mystic Acres - 0 Peeps
Day Watch 15-8 fps
Day Ride 20-6 fps
Night Watch 11-6 fps
Night Ride 9-3.5 fps

...but it lags the system so much you just can't enjoy it like you could a Rct2 park!!

or where I said:

Landfill Harbor with varied views runs anywhere between 8 and 14 FPS...Mystic Acres under the same conditions gives me 7 to 10 FPS and the coastercams drop to the 4 to 6 FPS range...I also loaded Daydream Crag and it runs at 4 to 6 FPS regardless of whether there are peeps or not. Once enough peeps get in the park, it crashes...

landfill harbor

4-7 reg play, 3-6 on ride coaster cam

mystic acres-actually froze my pc after a min or 2

0.5 to 2 reg play, 0.5 to 1 coaster cam

I tried to load Gonchar's park, and after five minutes of loading, I got a slide show. That's not even with people in it or any rides running.

The whole thread is a b*tch session of people trying to reason why they're getting poor performance.

My "original" framerate comment was when I was doing small non-themed parks for the scenarios.

When I tried larger (but still not more than 1/2 of the possible sandbox area) parks that were themed and had a bunch of coasters, rides, and buildings that is when the performance slowed to a crawl.

Oh, okay. Sorry guys. I was in a hurry when I wrote that, and I truely did miss seeing those comments. I'll go back and look and see if I can find your park Gonchar, and see how it runs on my machine. Got me curious!

So how did they run?

I'd like to know how they ran too.... geez the time you have to wait amazes me. :)
