Chippewa Lake Up In Flames....Again!

Hello Coaster Fans On This Sad Day.

Just got back from the site (or really close to it).

Chippewa Lake is still on fire as of June 13th 9pm. It has been going up in massive flames since 4pm today. 9 area fire departments are on the scene right now. After talking to the Medina Fire Department it doesn't look good at all right now. They think total destruction. More to come :(

According to the fire department at first glance all the coaster and ballroom is all gone.

I just heard from someone that lives near the park on the Yahoo Chippewa group that the coaster was untouched.

It could be. The only information I recieved (so far)is from the fire, police and sherrif department and from watching WAY off in the distance. I doubt anyone will know fully what has happened until the sun comes up.

Bummer. I made a stop out to Chippewa Lake during my coaster trip. Good thing I got some excellent shots and the Big Dipper. Does anyone have any area photos of the fire it self?

They showed footage from a chopper on the news around 6. The coaster was still there then but the fire still looked like it was going strong at the ballroom. They said the firefighters could not reach the blaze with trucks and were forced to fight it on the ground.

On the 10:00 news they only said the ballroom was a total loss, they didn't mention the coaster. I will call the station in the morning.

The coaster never would have a chance of running anyway, so honestly who cares about it. The ballroom and some other structures, however, certainly deserved a fighting chance.

Someone submit a news item when you've got a credible news source link.

I honestly do care about it. I realize it will likely never run again but it's existence is important because it is still the last coaster designed by Pearce, running or not. I don't have a link (but I submitted a news item). Tommorow's Plain Dealer will probably have a link on their website.

That's (somewhat) good news that the coaster wasn't destroyed. Even though everything is WAY overgrown it's nice to know some pieces of a great park still exist.
