Chiller has Lap Bars!

Yes, you heard me right.  The Robin Side of Chiller has officially received lap bars!  I was just there today, and there were 3 out of the normal 5 cars of the Robin train sitting on the back transfer track having the launch fins installed.  The lap bars are exactly the same as the ones FOF received earlier this year, and there have been handrails added to the backs of seats and the fronts of cars for people who are too scared to put their hands up, lol.  Anyways, unlike FOF, Premier retro-fitted the original trains, rather than build whole new ones.  All they did was remove the old seats and seat backs, put in whole new ones, and raised the sides of the trains a little.  Unfortunately, I didn't have my camera, but the mechanics said that they hope to have the train up and running by Coaster Celebration....September 15th.  YIPEE!!!  You have go to get out here and see these beauties!  Chiller will definitely become a top 5 coaster once it re-opens!  The batman side will be getting lap bars over the winter, and both sides will open in full lap-bar glory in 2002!

I have not rode The Chiller but from what I heard it is rough and no one liked the restraints. So for the people that love the ride and ride it a lot, I guess its for the better.

ßruce, you better believe him... he swears on the Hold Bible. hehe

Well, anyway, I like this. I like the way it's happening to more and more coasters. The "re-birth" of Flight of Fear seems to have started a trend... and its a very good trend. :)

I seriously hope that Premier's revelation about how OTS restraints are unnecessary for safety continues on throughout the industry.  Arrow, TOGO, and Vekoma especially!  Either way, if the restraint suddenly pops open, your a goner!  An OTS or lap bar wont have any difference in protection if that were to happen.  Please make every coaster have lap bars from now on! It would be a dream come true!

Oh, Well I didn't mean to be snobby in my first comment. (Although it really, really, sounded like it) I don't live anywhere near SFGr8Adv so I won't be there for a while. If Premeir has used the same magic as w/ FoF than I am sure it will be great.

I'll be there tomarrow and take pics of Robin for all to see

wow, those must be tight lap bars to hold you in.
I'm going on Thursday, so I can take some pictures.  I also can't wait for Coaster Celebration -- Viper is on the ERT...does anyone know if it's going to be up?  Sorry to get a little off-topic...

Viper will not be open at all this season.  They are replacing Viper with "The Twister" for the coaster celebration...even though it is not a coaster.

i was there on wednesday, and i am seconding coaster131's sighting. I saw 2 cars, but they didnt have LIM fins. They DID INDEED have lap bars!! I also saw those handle bars, and the seats have been given weird side panels on the seats. My suggestion, go on the Big Wheel, and bring either binoculars or a video camera. They look really cool!
GreatAdventureAddict...I mentioned that the mechanics were installing the launch fins while I was watching on Thursday.  That's why there were no fins...they had yet to be installed.  But, these puppies will be pleasing many riders...especially me...from now on!  YIPEE!

And Bruce...yes, you did soudn a little snobby, LOL.

If you guys want to see what the trains look like, go to the topic of "Pics of FOF?" and click the link to the picture.  It shows FOF's lap bars....exactly the same as Chiller's.  All you neew to do is color the trains red, raise the sides a little, and add some sleekness to the train.

I dont like the premier lapbars, but they're better than OTSRs.  Even though that lapbar is huge, it was up to my armpit.  Id rather have the S&S style lap bars but still they're better than OTSRs

I'm probably the only guy sad about these lapbars, because tall people can't fit with the STUPID portion that goes over the feet. If they got rid of that part, then I'd be happy.

When I rode FoF in June at PKI, I thought "Wow, this is NOT the same ride."  I even mentioned to their PR guy that ALL Premier launch coasters should get the same retrofit.  An ACE rep overheard, and told me it was already under way.  Gotta love companies that listen to ACErs, we KNOW coasters - even if we know NOTHING else...LOL
