Chain lifts

Last year was my first trip to Kings Island ( It was awsome). I noticed one big differense in chain lifts compared to cp. The lifts at Kings Island pull fast then slow and creates a rocking motion. Why does it do this and what other coasters do this.

Ps I like Kings Island so much I will be there opening day

TTD was built

TTD was broke

TTD is alive

Never Has Gravity Been So Uplifting.

Too much slack in the chain or a loose tensioner will create a bouncing feel when being pulled up the lift.

Just a guess, never been to PKI.

Hi

I have my reasons why they bounce, but I don't know why Son of Beast has to have that ultra fast chainlift. That thing can be heard from all over the park. Vortex has a pretty loud lift...when your on the ride. Sitting right over one of the dogs is unbearable if your trying to have a conversation; and we all know that we can't have a conversation on a good ride while its in the process of giving us a thrill! PKI likes to get people through the gate ASAP so they make short lines by having fast lifts. If only FoF could have that type of care. I always liked how the Beast has that intermission on its lift hill, and then at the top you feel like your gonna be hurled over with the boost in speed. Sweet ride!

It is simple. It all has to do with blocking. On the Beast, the train going up the first lift hill, has to slow to give the train in front of it time to clear the second lift hill.

SOB needs a fast lift because they can only run two trains and it's a long ride. Any slower and it just takes longer to move people throught the line.

I still think that they should've found a way to put an extra block between the transfer and the station. That would get them the extra block they need to safely run three trains and not have so much dead time in the station.

Anyone know the relative lengths (timewise) of the lift and course on SoB? Does the unload/load cycle take about a minute as per most non-CP coasters?
