Celebrate Coaster's 50th Birthday!

Hey, this is kind of a calendar thing, but without this thread, I imagine many of you won't know or care about this. Coaster (GOD) at Playland in Vancouver BC is turning 50 this year, and it is the only surviving Carl Phare coaster in the world. Not only has it still survived, but has thrived amidst legislature to remove it or rebuild it elsewhere. It has stood the test of time, and the PNE is celebrating on April 17th of this year. Anyone remotely close to the area needs to attend, as well as a shout out to those that might consider travelling the distance. You can contact the PNE directly if you need more information. They are very helpful, and very informative. They love enthusiasts there. So join me and Ronald Anderson on April 17th at the PNE.

How can we contact PNE?

BTW, this will be an enthusiast day similar to an ACE day, so the park won't be open to the GP as far as I know. Playland doesn't open until the next day. YES! :)

Carl Phare's Coaster is one coaster I swear I will ride one day, provided that, God forbid, it doesn't get razed anytime soon. Sadly, I don't think a trip to Vancouver is in the budget this year, or even the next couple of years.

50 years...very cool. I missed the 75th Anniversary celebration for CI Cyclone by 3 days. Maybe one of these years I'll make it to a significant event.

Have fun...tell God 'Hi' when you see Him again. ;)

Take a ride...

Minor correction here,The PNE Coaster is 45 years old this year. It was built in 1958. It is one year older than I am.
I am thrilled at the prospect of the park being closed to the GP and Coaster being a walk on. When the park is open,Coaster has the longest queue in the park. This ride is definitely worth the wait.

Lets' save the Vancouver PNE Coaster before its'too late!

Dorney Park is having the 80 birthday of the Thunderhawk on Friday, June 27 at Coaster Madness.

I just checked and it seems that Whistler-Blackcomb ski resort is still open then. Coasters and skiing in one trip. That would be fantastic. I know there are some other winter sports enthusiasts here so if anyone might be interested let me know.
Whistler is an amazing place. I spent week up there with some friends. I'm a complete novice at skiing and snowboarding, and actually went out on the slopes only once the entire week (a snowboarding lesson which proved that yes, I suck, but it IS fun) and I STILL had a good time. There's plenty to do up there, including some new activities I'd like to try that weren't there last time.

Unfortunately that trip was in February, so I was unable to ride Coaster even though we drove RIGHT PAST IT going through Vancouver. Sigh...

(My travel plans for this year have me up Northwest in August for CAC, SFEV, and.....Vancouver. So unless disaster strikes, I WILL add Coaster to my list this year.)

Oh Greg! The thought of driving past Coaster only to go skiing? The humanity!!! ;) I don't know about you, but Whistler isn't a bad thing, whatwith the largest ski resort in the western hemisphere? :) See you in August!
