Cedar Point trip help on hotels

My mom is taking my friend and I to cedar point on tuesday, she isnt sure if she wants to go to the park for the 2 days with us or just stay in the hotel and read and do other things. On the web site it says Breakers cost 140 dollars, but when we called it was 220 dollars. Breakers Express is much less and we are thinking of staying there, but does that still get us in 30 minutes earlier?

The advantage is at breakers we can go back to the room for food and a rest and no 16 dollar parking fees

What do you all think?

Lets see. You said $220.00 for Hotel Breakers. I spent $53.00 at a Super 8 hotel on Rte. 250 which is about 10 minutes from the park. Do the math and you will see that saving $16.00 to park and getting in a half hour early really isnt worth it.

Just my opinion of course. :)

Yes you get in 30 minutes early at Breakers Express... that is where I am staying because all the other hotels are all ready FULL :-O
when are you going ghettocoaster?

bigger is better

im leaving the evening of June 21 and staying the 22, 23, and 24 and leaving on the 25 and Breaker's Express is cheap and new since it was built in 2000...

I am going July 4th and 5th and we just got a hotel at Howard Johnson Express Inn and it cost us 130.00 for 2 night 2 double bed/ smoking. And its not far from the park.

I'm going on the 13th and 14th. Were staying at Breakers for 230 a night.
It must be nice to brag about how much money you (or more likely your parents) have. I say the people staying at the Ho Jo's and the Comfort Inns (Which is my hotel preferance) should be bragging NOT you! They get just about as equally nice room for HUNDREDS less! HA I only paid $70 a night at Comfort Inn! I'd rather pay $16 for parking than $150 more a night for a hotel room!!!

It's definitely the convenience factor, especially if you are with someone who isn't into all the rides. When "mom or dad" get tired, they are more likely to say "we are leaving the park" which certainly cuts into ride time for those who DO like to ride. In my case, my husband isn't as big an enthusiast as I am. So many times we stay "on point" so I can continue riding while he goes back to the room. The convenince of walking back to a room to rest, read, or even relax by the pool is what draws people to the hotels on point.

True, it is much cheaper to stay off point, and for those of you who are old enough to go to CP sans parents, and understandably don't want to cut into your limited budget, staying off point makes sense.

But I DO think it's unfair to accuse those of us who prefer the resorts of "bragging about how much money" we have.

BTW, it's a good idea to verify the costs of the off point hotels. Just like at CP, they are cheaper early in the season, and rates go up around mid June. We paid $90 a night at the Comfort Inn just south of Route 2 last year at the end of June.

I am also leaving on the 21st and staying on the 22nd and 23rd! I might even be staying at the breakers express. So are all other CP resorts full? What about the radisson? Last year we stayed at the radisson and it wasn't so bad. Ghettocoaster, whats your strategy on Sat?

I'm right there with CP Lady. The convenience of staying on property at CP outweighs the price. We got a room at Hotel Breakers this year for just $105 a night. I don't think that's bad at all. We've stayed at Sandcastle many years in the past and those rooms are much more. Still we always paid it for the simple convience factor - and the magnum view rooms

While people off property are getting up earlier, fighting trraffic, paying parking fees, standing at the gate, participating in the "running of the bulls" - we'll be sleeping in later and taking a leisurely stroll into the park before the gates open.

In the middle of the day while off property guests are looking for a spot to sit and chill or are soaking wet from that water ride and starting to feel uncomfortable in those wet shoes - I can make a quick run to my room catch a cold drink, change clothes and return refreshed.

Then comes closing time, reverse the morning drill. Again, it's entirely worth the extra money to me for that sort of relaxation factor and convenience.

Plus it depends on what your agenda is. If you're just in the area for a day and need a place to sleep, then off property hotels will do fine. We tend to spend 3 or 4 days at CP and treat it as more of a getaway. I'm willing to pay for that experience. Do what works best for you.

And no, this isn't a "bragging about money" thing - nor do I think other comments were either. But here's one thing to consider - NoLimitChic said:

"HA I only paid $70 a night at Comfort Inn! I'd rather pay $16 for parking than $150 more a night for a hotel room!!!"

My on property room cost just $105 - after parking only a $25 difference to yours at the Comfort. That $25 is more than worth it for early entry to the park, not having to fight traffic in and out in the morning & evening and having a personal retreat whenever it is needed. Plus, I don't think spending $230 for a room at CP is bragging, they have rooms that cost much more.

OK let me get this straight... I'm sorry if I said something inappropriate....but I do feel that what hyper said was bragging. Saying you are staying at the point is cool...I WISH I could...but when you bring up how much it cost per night....thats bragging. You dont have to bring up how much $$ your room costs...to me that is bragging. Who needs to know whether you stayed in a $105 or $230 or $1,000 per night room...that doesn't mater. OK so what if I stayed there and I paid the $105 like you did LG, and I thought it was a big cool deal...and then hyper comes in and says...OH Yeah Well I'm staying a $230 per night room. Thats bragging. Here I am saving up my money to stay at CP and can only afford the cheapest room for 1 night only to hear that someone else is talking about their more expensive room like it is better than mine...and it might be but to me PRICE is NOT relevent to it. Say your staying at CP thats cool, but talking about the price is not.

Oh and BTW PLEASE PLEASE don't take it that I'm picking on you hyper...or even LG...or CPL I'm REALLY not I just dont think it is quite nice to brag about how much you spend on a hotel room.

I don't think it's bragging at all. The price of the room at Breakers is relevant to the discussion.

Now, would I pay $230/night to stay at Breakers? No.

You'd probably find me with Chitown at the Super 8. Or maybe camping. I think the cabin rentals seem pretty reasonable, and you still get into the park early.

Someday there will be something here.

Here's my $.02... If you go in the middle of summer and you don't NEED to stay ON point (don't want to go back to your room, etc.) stay FAR off point (like Elyria). A 30 minute drive will save you TONS on hotel costs.

If you want the convience of being close, pay the extra to stay on point... Most of the hotels in Sandusky are pretty crappy (especially the cheaper ones). You won't end up paying that much more to stay at a CP hotel than a good Sandusky hotel (and you can be sure of the quality you will get).

Now, back to the origional poster's question... If your mom doesn't want to go a 2nd day, she'll still have to drive you over and pick you up at Breakers Express (not a big deal, but still...) If you stay at Breakers, she can relax on the beach. Breakers is definitely nicer than Express... It just depends on how much more you want to spend.

nobody's bragging...by saying the price it is just a way to measure out the pros and cons...calm down, no one is making fun of you because you have a budget...

last year i stayed at a red roof inn at least a 20 minute drive that was only 3 miles away and it was really a good deal, i have also stayed at howard johnson express (had a bad experriance there) and best buidget inn or something and that was nice. I think this year we are staying at breakers express for about 70 a night and my mom is coming in with us, she wont make us leave any earlier than we want to so I'm okay with that. She wont really ride anything but thats ok.

thank you everyone

Yeah all the hotels are filled up... we called every hotel and were left with Breaker's Express. I really dont care where I stay but I thought it would be nice to get in 30 minutes earlier. I honestly don't have a strategy - I will be there for 3 days anyways so Im just gonna go and hit whatever comes up first :)

What chain of hotels (hilton, marriot, ritz, etc)would you compare the hotels at Cedar Point to.? I'm just wondering because my parents, since they don't ride any rides, need something for them to do. For example, would they have a spa or something for my mom to spend the morning, and then go to the lake for the afternoon? I need to convince my parents to take me there!

NitroExplodes. The first step in trying to get your parents to go to the point is to order the CP Getaway guide. Second would be to convince them that its a resort type of destination so they would have plenty to do besides ride.

I didn't me to be bragging. I was just trying to help answer his question.
