I can't believe no one replied to my previous post!
Whats the point in being a comedian when nobody laughs???

Perhaps Im not funny?

John "not so funny" Peck

I hate spiders, that and scorpions. I've never really noticed them as much as some of you are saying, maybee I've never looked up, at Mantis or WT. The one place I did see them at was in the quee for Mean Streak. I hate them!

when you are an arachnaphobe, you tend to notice them more. The only place that creeps me out is the Mean Streak queue, and mostly at night when the webs and spiders are illuminated by the lights.

Again, though, the ride ops do "sweeps" and clean the queues, so even someone as scared of them as I can go to CP and not think about them unless you are specifically looking for them. Just don't look UP.

I'd rather die living than live like I'm dead

I went to CP my first time two seasons ago and the first night before I went to the park after I just got into town I turn on the tv and there is a local guy on the news who got bit by a Brown Recluse spider on his arm and the venom gave him necrosis and his skin was rotting off -I didnt sleep too good that night not that I hate spiders I just dont want rotting flesh.I noticed a few more spiders than I normally would have seen anywhere else in the world but it could be due to my awareness of the news story. So maybe I looked for them subconsiously the next two days.My problem is with this bird who was near the front of the park that tried to nab my elephant ear.I had the plate in one hand and had ripped a piece off in the other and this bird did a fly by and nabbed a piece of the part in my hand then the flock was fighting over it.

Cedar Point -How an amusement park should be run.

Ha ha, John Peck. I get it. Spider-Monster.

Just trying to make you feel better:-)

...So how bad are the MuffleHeads and Mayflies in say late June? Is it bad enough that you should wear shades when you ride the coasters...

I'm not sure about others, as I have only been to the park once in June (well once x2 days)... and when I went... holy crap, there were muffleheads EVERYWHERE... I didn't remember these many when I went in late July/August in years past.

The thing was, although they weren't pests in the sense that they would bite, land on you, or get caught in your throat while yawning... they were just everywhere & it was disgusting. On the waterslides at the waterpark, they were on top of the tubes, in the queue, stuck on the slides, everywhere... lightbulbs especially. This, being on a rainy week... it was really messy & ugly... but they honestly didn't get in the way.

I didn't get a mouth full of them or any bug on the couple of times I went, so I'm not sure if I rode it at the wrong time of day, or I'm just not keeping my mouth open long enough...

The thing is, I never noticed any spiders, though... Are these guys small or big? If there were any... it's all good for the park since these arachnids will get rid of the more disgusting insects. I guess the park can keep control of spiders as, like I said, never noticed anything when I was there... but I think they've got no control when it comes to mufflehead season. You can't help but to step or sit on a lotta dead ones during that time no matter how careful you are.

The spiders are most prevalent during the fall, after the park has closed to weekends only. The wooden structure rides at the back of the park where there is more vegetation have the harder time keeping them at bay -- White Water Landing is especially hard hit, because the spiders really enjoy living in the boats. That said, we do clean them out as best we can each day (or are supposed to -- it was one of the chores I had my crew do but I can't say for other crews whether they did or not), but they always come back. It's not a big deal, and is only a "problem" because so many people have a paranoia about spiders.
One time I saw one of those multicolored, shiny, and very large beetles at Cedar Point. Cant remember where exactly. The thing was easily the size of a quarter, if you included the legs.

The Millenium Force ride Ops: Squishing you where it counts since 2000. Track Record: 89 coasters
I always see spiders over by Challenge Golf. It seems to be a nice hang out for them. I talked to the lady who worked there and said the pet center was the worst place for spiders.

I have arachnaphobia really bad. I am absolutely terrified by spiders and that's probably why I noticed them everywhere at CP.

Lori, you're afraid of spiders? Huh... I never realized. ;)
