Cedar Point goes national with ad

There is a difference in an AREA being a destination (Chicago area/GAm, Wisconsin Dells/The parks up there, Branson/SDC) and the actual PARK being the destination (CP, WDW/Epcot/AK/DSF, USF/IoA)

How many people come from across the country to JUST go to GAm? Now contrast that with how many people come from across the country JUST to go to CP. THAT is what makes CP and the rest of the parks I listed destination parks.

By your definition, since more people visit the Chicago area each year than go to Orlando, that GAm is more of a destination than WDW/Epcot/AK/DSF, USF/IoA...

I would argue that most people who go to Orlando do go specifically for theme parks. Sure, there is a great deal of convention business but even that is derived from the facts that there are parks nearby.

I would say if you put Sandusky and Orlando side by side, without the theme parks, more people would go to Sandusky because at least the lake and islands are right there. Orlando is still an hour from any beach. Without the parks, Orlando would be....Winter Haven.

As for Kinzel's home, I am not aware that he owns any homes outside of Sandusky. The man is busy. I can't imagine he would have a lot of time for a second home. During the season he is away from his first home quite a bit. He might own a condo somewhere but I doubt he owns anything bigger than his house on the chausee.

Wahoo, that was my point exactly, I was comparing a park destination (WDW/etc.. - Orlando.) to an area destination (Chicago). And pointing out to SFGAmDieHard, that his view that GAm is more of a destination than CP, is absolutely WRONG. Again, as I stated in an earlier post, SFGAm is my home park and I like it, but IN NO WAY could you consider GAm a destination. Anywhere where you could consider traveling cross-country to and would first visit the surrounding area FIRST over the actual park, said park is NOT a destination park.

I consider a "destination" park to be one that has their own hotels on property, and owned and operated by the park.

Well to add to the "nationwide" we are getting Cedar Point ads here in Mighty MO as well, and while I was up in the Twin Cities, I saw an ad as well (it mentioned you can use your Valleyfair Season Pass). I dunno.

Here's an interesting data point.

We're going for our "extended" trip in two weeks: June 19th-22nd. On that Friday evening, every single Resorts room is booked, according to the online registration app. The Radisson is booked solid, too.

Interestingly, the Saturday night still has rooms left. I'm guessing that folks are staying on-property Friday night to get early entry on Saturday, and then staying somewhere cheaper off-property that night before going back home on Sunday.

I think 2Hostyl has it right, at the end of the commericial they push the resort hotels/motels.
