Cedar Point dropping hints for 2010

That is what I don't get about log flumes. Everyone likes them because you do not get wet. But if there is not great theming or you do not get wet then what is the point of it then? Why not just ride a family coaster? Don't get me wrong - I like flumes if they are done right. Rip Saw Falls was awesome. The theming was great and I got wet. Splash Mountain is good because of the theming. Heck, even the soon to be renamed Wild Thornberrys is alright too because of the theme and the killer elephant at the end. But White Water Canyon and a bunch of others like it - talk about a waste. No theming and no wet. What is their purpose?

Log Jammer at Kennywood has no theme, and yet it seems to pack them in. Sky Ride has no theme. Ferris wheels, observation towers, monorails and trains for the most part have no themes either.

They're a great family ride---the whole family can generally ride together, they usually have some good views from the course, they are not too scary for the little ones, and getting misted vs. soaked to the bone broadens the appeal. Even on a hot day, I don't necessarily want to be walking around in squishy shoes and drippy shorts for the next several hours.

The original log flumes are troughs or channels filled with water used by logging companies to transport timber down steep slopes. Log flume rides are a recreation of that, but they added lifts and bigger splashdowns. I'm not sure what more is required in theming. Sort of like saying you need to theme a sky ride.

I agree with the others. I much prefer the light splash you get from a flume to the outright drenching you get from a rapids or splashdown ride. Right now, CP doesn't offer that choice.

But don't forget the amount of deaths that use to happen in the rivers. Michigan Adventure's Grand Rapids has the back story of log runs. Since CF teamed up with The Earnhardts on the KD and CW projects, how about teaming up with the AXE MEN for theme?

^ what's next, retheme disaster transport to ice road truckers? Well it would probably look better...

Good point Jeff - I have never thought of it that way before. But then I never hear anyone saying how great a ferris wheel or a skyride like the love that is given out for a flume. My family certainly likes them but they seem to hold a special place in people's minds like no other flat ride. I just don't understand all of that love:)

^^ Ferris wheels are Blah until they are shining bright with lights for night. Kings Island use to have lights on the bottom of their sky ride, which would be intresting to see if someone could LED CP sky ride to give some visual appeal at night.

Maybe they could use a "Deadlest Catch" theam for the Wave Swinger...

Cedar Point lacks a flume right now. That is a fact. Pointing that out is not whining.

And they lack a zip-line, don't forget the zip-line!

I have a gut feeling I won't be flying like Superman over Millennium Island; so sad, so sad.

Plus, CP also lacks a flyer. I want a flyer, a 500 ft, dueling, woodie, 12-inversion FLYER!!!! ;)

Maybe a Snoopy-theamd flyer wouldn't be that bad.

Yeah, well I want a puppy.

You'll take what they give you, and damn well like it. ;)

What is the obsession with flyers?

The only flyer that I have been on that was decent, was tatsu. They have a short layout, they are slow, the line moves slow, they are uncomfertable and they are just not that exciting. And I have been on all of the flyers in the U.S, except for manta and superman in atlanta.

Not to mention all the problems that come along with them.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

I get the point. I really do. That was a really funny way of making my desires of a flume seem strange, but it's apparent that some coaster enthusiasts look over what attractions that people expect to see at a park. I accept that you simply do not understand.

Having said that, they had a flume for decades, and now they don't. A well rounded amusement park has a flume, imho. To be well rounded, a park doesn't need a flying coaster, or a zip line, because there are a lot of parks without that kind of ride, in the past or the present.

I really don't think that that sounds like whining. I think that it sounds more like a well thought out view of amusement park attractions.

We'll see in a few days if Cedar Point thinks the same as I do about flumes. :)

To be fair, I could say the same about dark rides. To be well rounded, a park needs a dark ride. Cedar Point does not have one, and like many parks, they used to have a few. Unfortunately, people have accepted that they should expect to find a dark ride at a park. Unless a few new ones are built soon, it looks to me like flumes could be heading towards the same fate.

It's just how I see how different kinds of attractions work together at a park to create a big picture. I know a lot of people who read CoasterBuzz understand exactly where I am coming from.

I agree, every park should at least have one of these rides at a park:
-Carousel
-Ferris Wheel
-Flume
-Raft Ride
-Roller Coaster
-Train
-Dark Ride
-Kiddieland
-Antique Cars
-Spinny Flat Rides

Nice!

The bad news is, It's pretty difficult to find a park these days with every single one of those kinds of attractions. :)

Notice that the only two in your awesome list missing from Cedar Point is flume and dark ride? Cedar Point said a while back that they plan on building a new flume in the near future, and lightning strikes twyce.

For those looking for anything "happening" on the Frontier Trail, you likely won't see that till after Labor Day. Just sayin'. ;)

Oh, and hopefully, everything will all make sense. Soon.

I know I've confused myself once or twyce.

Okay.

So, by that logic, we'll see something on Tuesday 9/4/09

We now know the entrance will be off the Fronteir Trail (one of the reaxing parts of the park).

In a way, this makes sense, as the park is closed Monday-Thursday after Labor Day.
