Cedar Point Coaster Mania 2022

Friday, October 29, 2021 2:22 PM

I know this question is a shot in the dark, but I'm wondering if anyone reading here has any insight as to Cedar Point holding coaster mania next year, considering the ACE convention is just a few weeks later.

I'm wondering this because I've been wanting to go for a few years, then the Pandemic and I think it wasn't held. Then last year I waited for tickets to become available and immediately tried to get a campsite at lighthose point, only to find there were no vacancies.

I really wanna get there next year and stay at lighthouse point, but don't know if I want to do the convention. Coaster Mania is a good alternative. If I knew for sure, I'd make reservations now.

Thanks
Tony

I have no idea about the event in 22, but I’d guess keeping the ACE convention and Coastermania separate events would be the direction they would take. Both groups have come to expect exclusivity, so to keep everyone happy and the events manageable…
I’m not planning on either. But since the park’s calendar of events isn’t released yet, I’d examine any info from ACE for clues. Or contact them with the question.
Maybe the question has already been posed on their FB page.

Coaster Con was also at Cedar Point in 2004. CP moved CoasterMania to September that year. Not saying that will be the case next year, but it could follow suit.

But then again, what do I know?

Pretty sure that CM was held the same weekend as Holiwood Nights this year. Not sure if on purpose, but pretty poor planning by CP, IMO. (I say that because I get the impression that HW has been way more consistent year after year with their event.)

It's the same weekend almost every year.

I believe they are both always the same weekend. One is always the weekend after Memorial Day and one is always the first full weekend of June. Some years that lines up to be the same weekend. Occasionally it doesn't.

Costermania is (almost) always on the first Friday in June. Holiwood Nights (and before that, Stark Raven Mad) used to be on a different weekend - I *think* the previous - until a few years ago. I rememeber Paula talking about making sure they didn't conflict with each other.

To being an "us" for once - instead of a "them".

Alright, I stand corrected. I remember seeing that they matched up this year and thought it was kinda weird, as I'm sure there are people who would love to do both. I'm sure the two parks don't talk regularly, but I would imagine it would benefit both to co-ordinate different weekends, as I'm sure there are people who would love to do both.

Demand for both events in recent years is such that it may be a good thing they often coincide.

Tommy- I’ve run into a lot of people at CoasterMania who actually do both… Early ERT at CM, then haul ass across Ohio to HoWo for HWN. Seems a bit excessive to me, but to each their own. And I will also say there was a noticeable difference in late ERT crowds when both events were the same day… Maverick would be sit & ride, Dragster was barely a station wait. When the two events didn’t coincide late ERT was just as busy as early ERT.

But then again, what do I know?

I feel like the pressure/stress/energy expended for that wouldn't allow me to enjoy either. But again, to each their own.

Brett- Agreed. I don’t get the blitz approach to parks.

Jeff- That’s still the best amusement park commercial ever.

^Not all parks require an entire day to visit, so, if 2 parks that are small are near each other, I have no problem getting in, riding what I want and then moving on to the next during the same day. Also, many of us can't do carnival spinners, so, another reason not to stay too long.

As far as HN and CM, it appears they will be on different weekends. Darn it! I really wish HW would limit ticket sales to the event. It will be even more crowded next year if the events ARE on two different weekends.

That's the main reason I have never pulled the trigger to fly up from Florida to do a Holiwood Nights. I have seen plenty of photos of the crowds and read plenty of TRs where folks line up to get their one Voyage ride of the night. I would rather just visit during a random day or two during the season.

Zoug- Do all parks require a full day? Maybe not. But my life is go-go-go enough on an every day basis that sprinting from ride to ride just to get them done and drive like a bat out of hell to the next park has no appeal. Counting coaster credits is fun and all but it’s secondary to actually enjoying the experience. But I guess to each their own.

Unless their respective date criteria change, the next time HWN and CM will be separate weekends is 2024-2026.

Brett- Agreed. HWN looks like it has outgrown itself, kinda like CM did before 2016 when CP started charging for the event and put a cap on tickets sold. BUT from what I’ve heard, Voyage is a whole different animal with no trims, which is apparently exclusive to HWN.

I went to CM 2016-2019 and called it “the happiest day of the year” each time. In fact CM 2016-2018 are probably my 3 favorite CP visits of all time.

There's even more recent precedent too: ACE Spring Con in 2012 was at Cedar Point in May, and CoasterMania was moved to July 13.
