Cedar Point changes haunt attraction names associated with mental illness

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

The National Alliance on Mental Illness, or NAMI, said Cedar Point promoted false stereotypes last Halloween by calling a haunted house "Dr. D. Menteds Asylum for the Criminally Insane" and a musical show "The Edge of Madness: Still Crazy."

So what's the hospital themed house's new name going to be?

The people at the National Alliance on Mental Illness must be crazy if they think this haunted house is damaging the public image of people who suffer from mental illness.

Wow....

If I was Dick, I would tell them to kick rocks. Its halloween...

Changing the name so they dont "hurt anyones feelings"? Who gets hurt feelings by a name?

My best idea for a rename?

"People with mental illnesses are scary, so run! Run as fast as you can. Don't touch them! Don't even point! Just run! Run now! Preferably screaming loudly in the process! - The Attraction"

This is why I don't work for Cedar Fair.

Why not just go with the tried and true?

Thunderhawk.

These name changes are so gay.

Be thankful it's not a Six Flags deal..

otherwise it'd be the Dr. Prozac's House of Happiness presented by Pfizer, with the Zany Zoloft Zoo presented by Wyeth. For those that want to get to the front of the line first they'll have the Cialis Cut-A-Line pass sponsored by Merck

Just another Mike..

^so true.

Hey now, I am a farmer and corn stalkers sheds a bad light on my scarecrows. I worked at the Toys r us in the factory and the people that work in happy jack's make people think bad of me!

Nah. That's the new name for the show at Red Garter. I don't really see how it's any better though. The new name for the haunted house is Eternity Infirmary.

I still prefer my suggestion for the haunted house to be called "Kinzel's Dementia".

Terrifying!

Seriously though, the criminally insane are scary. Halloween is about scary stuff. I don't see them taking out witches because Wiccans are offended, or take out Chainsaw wielding hillbillies because Appalachian American loggers are offended. Or what about the ghosts? Everyone has a dead friend of family member. Or aliens? Some people think that aliens are Biblical demons. Blood and gore are offensive to some people for different reasons, some personal.

I could give about a hundred more examples. Scary stuff is edgy.
