Cedar Point amusement park/resort, known around the world for its record-breaking collection of rides and roller coasters, announced several plans for the 2014 season, including introducing two new family rides, changes to the park’s Camp Snoopy area and more details on a two-year renovation project to Hotel Breakers.
Joining Cedar Point’s impressive lineup of rides next summer will be Pipe Scream – a Disk’O Coaster, and Lake Erie Eagles – a Flying Scooters ride. Located along the Gemini Midway, Pipe Scream is billed as “combining the best of a roller coaster and a flat ride in one.” Riders will spin and coast over 302 feet of track, reaching a maximum height of 43 feet above the midway and a top speed of 43 mph! Pipe Scream is manufactured by Zamperla, Parsippany, N.J. Across from Pipe Scream, Lake Erie Eagles will also soar onto the Gemini Midway and will treat a new generation of Cedar Point’s guests to a classic thrill ride. Riders on Lake Erie Eagles will sit in one of eight ride carriages that are suspended from arms located more than 28 feet above the ground. As the ride begins its cycle, the carriages will swing outward simulating the sensation of flight! A paddle on the carriages will allow guests to alter their flight experience from mild to wild! Lake Erie Eagles is manufactured by Larson International, Inc., Plainview, Texas.
In addition to the Gemini Midway improvements, Camp Snoopy, celebrating 15 years of family fun at Cedar Point, will also see enhancements. The kid-friendly Frog Hopper ride will be relocated to Camp Snoopy and re-themed as Woodstock’s Airmail while the Jr. Gemini roller coaster will be renamed Wilderness Run and its entrance will be moved into Camp Snoopy. These two popular rides will join other family favorites such as the Tilt-A-Whirl, Lolli Swing and Camp Bus and will bring Camp Snoopy’s ride count up to an impressive nine rides, many of which parents can ride side-by-side with their children.
“We are excited about these new additions to the park,” said Jason McClure, incoming Vice President and General Manager of Cedar Point. “Following the successful introduction of GateKeeper, we believe these new rides and upgrades will continue to make Cedar Point the perfect vacation destination for families of all ages.”
The beginning of a two-year Hotel Breakers renovation project will also commence this winter. Phase one will include upgrading a portion of the exterior of Hotel Breakers, while phase two will take place over the 2014-2015 winter season and will feature upgrades to both the exterior and interior of the hotel. Conveniently located between the sandy shore of Lake Erie and the mountainous roller coasters of Cedar Point, this popular family vacation destination boasts more than 500 rooms, many of which provide sweeping views of the Cedar Point Beach.

I completely understand what you are saying, Carousel Rabbit. Jr. Gemini has an interesting, although very outdated, design in the artistry of it's station. I welcome the makeover, and sadly wave goodbye to the old look.
The ride's art design kind of went from cool '70s, to a little bit outdated in the '80s and '90s, and back to a nostalgic cool "old fashioned" '70s look again.
I wonder if they will paint it brown? I wonder if the ride will get some trees planted around it to help it to meld into Camp Snoopy better?
Cedar Point's Camp Snoopy is awesome. Making it a little bit better while adding something more interesting to the main Gemini midway is a great move. Jr. Gemini children's area is not terribly necessary because Camp Snoopy is so close. The little ones can still ride Red Barron by themselves, jump around in the Snoopy Bounce, "race" in the Peanuts 500, and ride the the other family rides with "a responsible person."
We will lose the two Hamptons and the kiddy bumper boats. They were very underused, so it's not a great loss.

Since it's not a racing coaster, the name "Jr Gemini" never made much sense, unless you're counting the two laps. I'm guessing it was named more for its location near Gemini, so giving it a Camp Snoopyesque name doesn't bother me, with moving the entrance to the other side.
I'll also be happy if the talk about removing the blacktop proves to be true...
The hampton rides are no loss, God knows CP has enough spinning kiddie rides as it is. Pipe Scream is awesome, I've never been on a ride like it but I would love to do so. I'm really glad the monster and witches wheel are safe though. And it's always been a mystery to me why Frog Hopper wasn't just installed in Camp Snoopy to begin with.
I don't care for the stylized eagles on the flying scooters. I thought Six Flags did a much better job with the decals on Great Escape's Screamin' Eagles:
Overall, great move for Cedar Point, it's nice to see a park actually add new flat rides these days. It doesn't seem to be as common a thing as it was back in the 70s and 80s.

Had to look up to see what station looked like. To me it looks like a gas station canopy.
Yeah the Gemini midway is pretty much void of anything exciting. So adding these two rides would be very welcome, and give some visual excitement to that area. There is a stretch of lawn there, that just has John deer tractors sitting on it, so they could also put something there.
The frog hopper ride is pretty much the only ride sitting next to the Gemini, so I am surprised that they did not put the pipe scream ride there. It would have fit nicely, and added some visual dimension to Gemini. They also would have had to remove less rides and shops to do it.
I have been on a ride similar to the pipe scream. They had one at the Allegan county fair, called the skate-boarder. Fun ride. Will hope that this is not a tamed down version of it. As for the location of the flying scooter, it is away from where the Witches Wheel is, so I think it's not going anywhere.
They make it look, and sound like a big ride, but it's not. It's no longer than a carnival Toboggan, and most likely takes up about the same amount of space. Maybe a little longer length wise, but not much. The most exciting part will be a little weightlessness going over the speed bump, and high spins on the ends. If they run it like a carnival does it will be a great ride, but, if they tame it down. It might be a nice diversion.
I didn't do it! I swear!!
I think you are confusing the multiple versions of the ride, Timer-Rider. The version going to CP is much longer than a Toboggan.
I know I'm annoying on here, but I thought I would add to the conversation on here. I'm excited for the new rides coming to Cedar Point. Anybody that is dissapointed about the games leaving, should reconsider. The reason I'm saying that is because hardly anybody went over to that section to play any of the games. I think this is the reason why part of the games had been closed up this year. Anybody know what's going to happen with the smaller rides that the park plans to remove by Jr. Gemini? Are they being relocated to another park?
Not all of them. Michigan Adventure needs a new attraction next year too...

More importantly, what's going to happen to all the old games? Specifically, the wife and I would pay up to $100 for "Lucky! Plucky! Clucky! Ducky! Aaaaand Crispy!"
Seriously.
I think it is great to see new family rides at this park. Very interesting that they are getting flying eagles and also SFGA. Is there a new company making this ride again? Could they possibly come back to KI as well? That ride will make a lot of happy customers. Agreed though that they need to have some snap to them.
I don't know why it amuses me that this announcement is more discussion worthy than the $50 million the company wants to spend on Carowinds. Nothing but crickets over there.

These are our friends that also bring us the Fireball (super loops) and have most recently acquired rights to the Tilt a Whirl. I don't know what's happened to Sellner.
These Scooters are a popular product for Larson and they seem to be popping up everywhere now. Indiana Beach, Knott's, Michigan's Adventure, hersheypark, and Zoombezi Bay come to mind off hand.
I suppose it would be all right if they "returned" to KI, but I think the original Bisch Rocco's are better and I would still miss them.
I think a clever idea for CP would have been to put two side by side and let them duel, kinda like your Dumbos. It sure woulda helped with capacity.
I'm not complaining, mind you...

Oh come on, the Point has always been a heavy favorite of discussion here... :)
It does seem very strange that CP is installing a ride that can dispatch with as few as 8 riders per cycle. While the flyers will not have the draw of, say, Gatekeeper, I can imagine some long wait times, or a lot of people exiting the line when they see how slow it's moving.

Depends on who you're comparing to.....
